Favorite Summer Blockbuster?

What is your guys' favorite blockbuster this summer? Mine would have to be Prometheus followed by The Expendables 2.

Assuming you mean just the big blockbuster movies and not the smaller movies:

1. The Dark Knight Rises
2. Snow White and the Huntsman
3. The Avengers
4. The Bourne Legacy
5. The Amazing Spider-Man

Honorable mentions: The Expendables 2, Men in Black III, The Dictator.

Worst big summer blockbuster: Total Recall

Dishonorable mentions: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Savages.

TDKR & Avengers. That's about it really.

I guess I'd go with The Dark Knight Rises, but holy shit this was a terrible summer for movies.

Avengers gets my vote. In my opinion it was the only one that really delivered in every way a blockbuster should. I thought that The Dark Knight Rises and Prometheus were both cases of "close, but no cigar".

Honestly, Avengers wins the gold just like the new basketball dream team won the gold at the London Olympics. Not really even a contest this go around.

Some good to "not bad" films in the mix (TDKR, Bourne) but really nothing great besides Avengers. Amazing Spider-Man was forgotten by most before their cars made it out of the cinema parking lot. Prometheus was a near dud. TDKR just coasted off a better second film and was more concerned about finishing the trilogy then telling a good story. MIB3 was a waste of talent and budget. Total Recall was pure eye candy with no heart. Battleship and Abe Lincoln flat out sucked.

Not the most stellar of summers with Avengers raising the bar so high that everything else seemed dull by comparison for the rest of the season.

Moonrise Kingdom > every 2012 summer blockbuster by a country mile.

TDKR > Avengers
Amazing Spider-Man > Avengers

I'm a Whedon fan, but I was disappointed in his script here. Where was the thematic cohesion? And if I wanted to see alien robots attacking a major city, I wouldn't have avoided the Transformers movies like the plague.

The Avengers is carried by the wit and camaraderie between the characters to give it my vote. Shame the action scenes were as generic as anything in Transformers.

TDKR was a lumbering bore, Snow White was beautiful to look at but didn't have anything compelling beyond that, Spider-Man was, re-boot aside, a weak movie.

Bourne is right, this was pretty bad for blockbusters, though I don't see how it's any different removed from a year ago. Cowboys vs. Aliens? Green Lantern? Just as bad if not worse.

Avengers, by far.
I wish I could've said that there were more closer to the running, but for me, that's it.

I personally, have had a blast this summer.

The Dark Knight Rises
The Avengers
Paranorman
The Amazing Spider-Man
Prometheus
Ted
MIIIB

All funs times. Spider-Man and MIIIB being the biggest surprises.

Still haven't seen The Expendables 2. Didn't bother with Battleship, could care less about the Bourne series.

Summer 2012 Live Action Blockbusters:
1. The Dark Knight Rises
2. The Avengers

3. The Amazing Spider-Man
4. Men in Black 3
5. Premium Rush (Surprisingly silly fun!)

The rest ranged from "meh" to mostly awful.

Summer 2012 Animated Films:
1. ParaNorman (Wow)
2. Brave

Madagascar 3 and Ice Age 4 were awful.

Summer 2012 Other Films:
1. Moonrise Kingdom
2. Beasts of the Southern Wild
3. Safety Not Guaranteed
4. Seeking a Friend for the End of the World
5. Your Sister's Sister

Overall:
1. Moonrise Kingdom
2. The Dark Knight Rises
3. ParaNorman
4. Beasts of the Southern Wild
5. Safety Not Guaranteed

I have yet to see Cosmopolis, Killer Joe, or Celeste and Jesse Forever, three films I am very much looking forward to. Also: Lawless looks awesome, but feels more like a fall release.

I thought The Dark Knight Rises was the perfect ending to Nolan's trilogy. The Avengers was fun and a (not so) close second, but TDKR was my favorite of the summer.

How I thought my list would look prior to the summer starting...

Pre-Summer

1. The Dark Knight Rises
2. Prometheus
3. The Avengers

How those movies actually turned out...

Post-Summer

1. The Avengers
2. Prometheus
3. The Dark Knight Rises

I loved Moonrise Kingdom, but I wouldn't really call it a 'summer blockbuster'.

I thought mine would look like this:

01. The Avengers
02. The Dark Knight Rises
03. The Amazing Spider-Man
04. Prometheus
05. The Expendables 2

And it ended up looking like:

01. Prometheus
02. The Expendables 2
03. The Dark Knight Rises
04. The Amazing Spider-Man
05. The Avengers

And yeah, I loved Moonrise Kingdom more than all of those just like you (I also think Beasts of the Southern Wild is the best film of the year so far) but it's not a blockbuster so it ain't on my list. I'm talking about big-budget summer extravaganzas. Moonrise Kingdom could've come out at any time of the year, really.
