She was one of the last from the era of clean comedians. Sure, there were some who worked "blue" but for the most part, you didn't have to worry about them being bleeped for using obscenities or trying to get a punchline from the worst scenarios. There are quite a few present-day comedians who would do well to look back upon their predecessors and learn from them.

I dont know about a lack of clean comedians... people like Jerry Seinfeld and Ellen DeGeneres are clean and they are hilarious and very successful.
Same with Sinbad, he was a hugely successful stand up, and he was a very clean act. Bill Cosby too. She was just a natural comedy. She didnt have to try to be funny, her brain just came up with funny things to say. |

One of the funniest ladies there ever was.
Transcendent. From when she began all the way til now (she was the voice of Peter's mom on "Family Guy"), that signature laugh. RIP |

I fucking loved Phyllis Diller, one of the funniest women ever, even funnier than a lot of younger women today, IMO...she was truly one of the greats. She was up there with Woody Allen, Milton Berle, Jack Carter, Pat Cooper, Don Rickles, George Jessel, Lou Jacoby, and so many other golden age comics from decades past...even George Carlin (before he released his AM/FM album). She deserves to be up in the top comedians of all time...she belongs up there.
...and don't even wonder about my age on this. So what if she was around since the 50s? I'm 27 years old and I know exactly who Phyllis Diller is, so younger people who have no idea have no excuse. I really am a big fan of comedy, and she was one of the best. RIP |
