Did Youtube save music videos?

Having just heard Gangnam Style on the radio yesterday it got me thinking... That never could have happened without Youtube. Hearing a Kpop song that is largely sung in Korean on a top 40 radio station was pretty mind blowing to me.

Gotye and LMFAO are two examples of artists that grew exponentially in popularity because of really unique/fun/different music videos. Those two videos combined have close to 1 billion views on Youtube alone. I'm not saying they would have never been popular without Youtube though.

What do you guys think? Is Youtube the most influential thing in today's music? Or does something else top it?

Radio is still the dominant way people discover music.
■ 48 percent discover music most often through the radio
■ 10 percent discover music most often through friends/relatives
■ 7 percent discover music most often through YouTube

More teens listen to music through YouTube than through any other source.
■ 64 percent of teens listen to music through YouTube

■ 56 percent of teens listen to music on the radio
■ 53 percent of teens listen to music through iTunes
■ 50 percent of teens listen to music on CD

I call it the teen effect

since no one replied , i'll add to my cheap excuse of an answer

non-english music made a lot of headways in the USA in the last 20 years.

Starting early with Nena - 99 Luft Balloons and Falco -Rock me Amadeus (the translation of both songs originated from their popularity in the english world) and moving to later "success" like La Bamba - Macarena - Los Ketchup and other latinos hits.

Even in metal , Rammstein is loved but they sing german ( for what i know , only 2 songs have english version).

On the flip side , still wondering why the russian Serebro never burned the chart this side of the atlantic ... i mean Mama Luba got a catchy beat and the video is mostly SFW porno

With that said , i think Psy is getting noticed because he is a LFMAO knock-off.

I think the music video art form has been given new life by you tube. We don't have to rely on networks giving the ok, so many smaller artists are given the keys to make videos for musicians and its a beautiful thing. Such a difference from the dry spell in the late 90s when MTV took a dive.
