The festival of nine nights popularly known as Navratri is observed on the first nine nights of the Ashvin month which falls between October and November. This festival represents the celebration of Mother Goddess Durga and her nine forms. Goddess Durga, Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Saraswati are worshiped during these nine days. After Navratri, the next day is celebrated as Dussehra. In various parts of the country, this festival is celebrated in different ways. In the east, Durga Puja is celebrated from the seventh day to the tenth day with great joy and enthusiasm. Whereas, in Varanasi Ramlila is very popular. In the south, especially in Mysore, it is celebrated in the form of processions followed by a spectacular display of fireworks.
Dussehra is the defeat of the bad and is represented by burning a statue of Raavan, the villain of Ramayana which is a Hindu mythology. It is followed by bursting of firecrackers and you can buy fireworks from the shops or stalls. During this time a lot of temporary stalls pop up that offer fireworks for sale. As this festival is followed by the most important Indian festival Diwali, you can get cheap
fireworks during this time. Dussehra is celebrated with a lot of pomp and show.
