Which movie has the most memorable opening scene?

Personally, I love "Midnight Cowboy". The naive Joe Buck and terrific background score of Nilsson's Everybody's Talkin'.

good question and I'm not really sure but I'll go with the opening segment to Drive. It was a masterfully done car chase (maybe one of the best I've ever seen).

Off the top of my head...

Jaws-skinny dipper eaten
Raiders of the Lost Ark-the tomb
The Matrix-Trinity kicks ass
Goodfellas-"As far back as I can remember I always wanted to be a gangster"
Reservoir Dogs-the Madonna Like a Virgin discussion, absolute classic and some of the best dialogue ever written for film IMO
Gladiator-that opening battle is epic
The Dark Knight-the robbery was probably the best action scene of the film

There are so many I am sure I have missed. Would take some time to compile a complete list but these are some that come immediately to mind.

I was watching the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and I forgot how great that opening sequence was. One of my biggest guilty pleasures.

I always get a kick out of the opening scene of Man on the Moon.

Mission: Impossible III has a real attention grabbing opener as well.

City of God - Loved the opening credits.
Inglourious Basterds - One of my favorite Tarantino scenes, and to me the best part of Inglourious Basterds.
Once Upon A Time in the West - My favorite western intro scene to my favorite western.
Blow Out - Gotta love the cheesy slasher opening with De Palma up to his usual trickery.
The Player - Gotta love the opening shot.
Boogie Nights - Also love the opening shot for Boogie Nights

Drew Barrymores scene in scream. Being dragged to her death while clutching the phone calling out to her parents. Gutted, then hung in the tree.

First movie that came to mind: HALLOWEEN! John Carpenter's brilliant use of the Stedicam POV sequence as seen through the eyes of Michael Myers hasn't been matched since (in the horror/slasher genre).
