I never watched The Sopranos; I think I saw one episode in my entire life. But I enjoyed his performances in movies such as Get Shorty and True Romance.

An incredible actor, he gave perhaps the finest performance in television history. Sad to see him go, especially so young. I'm glad I suppose that he went out with one of his best performances in Killing Them Softly.

This is shocking. In retrospect it seems obvious that something like this was possible considering his age and weight, but I never would have guessed. RIP

This was a sad surprise. Remember him doing a nice turn in Killing Me Softly. Was thinking about watching The Sopranos finally now that all my shows are done for the summer...now I have to watch it! R.I.P. James Gandolfini!

Just a shame. Too talented and way too young.

However, when I was watching Killing Them Softly, I couldnt help but notice how huge he was. he was a heart attack waiting to happen.

Fuck. I'm usually not too affected by celebrity deaths, but I fucking loved Gandolfini. The Sopranos is easily my favorite show ever. This is so damn sad and unexpected.

One of my favorite Tony Soprano moments (and I'm sure I'm not alone): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0qb9wP_jt0

Read he just had a newborn child last October too.

I wonder what it will be like growing up as a child and only knowing your dad from his performances in TV and movies.

Stunned me.

R.I.P.

I have to echo the same sentiments and say that he gave an Oscar calibre performance in Killing Them Softly.

Fuck.

man... i just got the text from my buddy of this news and let out an audible "what the fuck"...

why the fuck does every year have to have a death that is utterly shocking, last year we lost the amazing Michael Clarke Duncan and this year we lose the infinitely talented James Gandolfini... what the fuck

i actually just watched The Sopranos entire series (again) a month or so ago (i watch the show often, it is one of my all time favorites).

i love seeing him pop up in movies, from Taking of Pelham 123 to Zero Dark Thirty to Incredible Burt Wonderstone and even a christmas flick i watch every year Surviving Christmas.

i know some people hate these statements but: how can Justin Bieber be alive and James Gandolfini is dead?! how can that happen

just super shocked and saddened right now

Never seen an episode of The Sopranos, but even without that iconic role, he's had a hellavu career. I loved when he went up against Robert Redford in The Last Castle. Or the touching performance he gave in Welcome to the Riley's. Or having to pretend to be Ben Affleck's father in the underrated Surviving Christmas. He was also absolutely terrific in another underrated gem, The Mexican.

RIP

I'm usually not affected by celebrities death, but this one has been a major blow. I'm crushed.

One of the finest American actors.

Last year alone he put out three pieces of stellar work. The best IMO, is the little seen, much underappreciated Not Fade Away. It's an absolute soulful, moving piece of work.

He will be missed.

Just woke up and I wish this wasn't real. I wish this was just a bad dream but it actually happened. Damn. We lost a great one.

Haven't been hit with an actor loss like this since Heath Ledger dying back in 2008.

I'm not into getting into many narrative TV shows at all but The Sopranos was top notch entertainment in my book.

It was very sad to wake to this news, fortunately James Gandolfini left behind one of the best performances/characters in history in Tony Soprano, and his contribution to cinema is also enjoyed and appreciated. Rest in Peace.

His performance in Killing Them Softly should of been Oscar nominated over Alan Arkin in Argo.

I'm probably gonna watch a Sopranos marathon this weekend in his honor.

Here's to you James
