Movie Fanatics

Often, when I find a topic of interest that seems too good to be true (eg: like the story about JLH in Playboy), I like to go searching for evidence. In this case, I went to the JLH homepage to check for news/scurry their message boards. The thing is that the boards were so permeated with people that were "in love" with her, it was sad.

One example can be found here:
http://www.lovehewitt.ws/incredible.htm

This particular "fan" met her once and was so moved by the experience, that he fell head-over-heels in love with her. For the past year, he has been hounding that particular site and has over 2800 posts in the past one year (all with subject headers relating to Jennifer Love Hewitt).

My dislike for fanatics is not their fervent love for their gods and goddess, but their denial to hear things from others about their personal addiction. I voiced out my opinion (knowing in the back of my head that I would not be able to change their opinion, but I wanted to bust a few brain cells in the process) and because I was not in love with JLH (literally) as were the other posters, I was subsequently banned from the site from a moderator who was even more fervent (he had a post count of over 4000) and even more one-sided.

Here are my (mostly deleted) specifics relating to my experience at the JLH message board:

I would understand if this thread got closed (since I am referring to another site). However, since I am not affiliated with the sites in any way, I hope it will not be. My point in opening this thread was to ask whether anyone knew someone who displayed this particular type of movie addiction and whether you did anything to help the person out. I am sure that this is a problem among many fans of the art of movies, but I havent really noticed it here, so I bring it onto the table for discussion. What do you think?

Psu, I think the reason you've not really seen that sort of thing here is that these boards are not devoted to a particular individual.
I've never known anyone with this kind of 'love' for a celebrity and I'm rather glad of that.

As far as I am concerned there are many people assosiated with movies that I am a fan of but certainly I'm not a fanatic to the level of those on the site you pointed me to.
A case in point, Julianne Moore is my favourite actress, part of the website I created for a college project focused on her and I am trying to collect all her films on VHS or DVD. Does this make me a fanatic? I don't think so, I don't have any deep feelings for her, I'm certainly not in love with her, I admire her acting, that's about as far as it goes.

I'm sorry but those people should be put in an asylum. They truly are crazy. I mean you can be a fan, but they should have restraining orders...

P.S. - psudoazn, great job on getting yourself banned from those boards....I'm gonna go see if I can...

A girl I knew is obsessed with Angelina Goli. She's told me she has trouble not thinking about her. She has a shrine if pictures and a photo album of magazine photos. I will say she needs to try and focus on something else. I don't think someone should devote time and energy for someone they will never know.

Holy shit!

This guy sure blew that one little meeting out of proportion! He's in for a big letdown!

(okay I admit there's "someone" I'm obsessed with, but I don't act like an idiot about it )
