It was a stellar paranormal movie in my opinion. It is unforturnate it got blasted by the critics (it didn't rip off the Exorcist).
Stigmata - 9/10 |

I really enjoyed this movie too. Patricia Arquette gave a very nice performance and I loved the scene where she was in the bathtub and they show under the water, it's very artsy...
Grade: 7.5/10 |

For those that care the DVD contains an alternate ending which Frankie dies at the end and is carried out by Byrne. I suppose they that to make the theatrical ending all happy. Anyway this movie is pretty good.

A pretty lame movie!!!The acting was okay (Byrne and Pryce particularly)and the story came together at the end but at that point I ceased caring.A bit disappointing (6/10)

It was okay, but I really didn't care for it. I'm not a big fan of the Exorcist either so that's probably part of the reason. It's solid, but none of it really struck me as good.

why does everyone relate this to the exorcist?!?! there was a short exorcism at the end but the two films are totally diffrent. i loved it and i own the dvd for it and i strongly suggest any fan watch it with its director commentary, it shows that the director was trying to make a religous film with a artsy twist. I loved it very much 10/10 and i think that franky (patricia) was freaky as hell with her stigmata attack. I could see why critics hated it because the catholic church pisses on it all the time, and most of the time the criticts side with them.

I just finished watching Stigmata tonight. It was okay I guess. Patrica Arquette was pretty good, and there were some nice freaky parts. It was pretty unsettling when she was bleeding from the wrists like crazy, especially in that subway. Yet, what bothered me was that the director used this "MTV" style that I found distracting, with all the rapid editing. Overall, it was sorta interesting but nothing exceptional. I don't know about the theological basis for the material. Roger Ebert based his entire (negative) review on this, but I was never raised Catholic so what do I care?
![]() Oh, and as for the alternative ending, I'd recommend the original version for two reasons. First, the way the 2nd ending is set up, it's supposed to be touching but to me felt strained. Second, the picture quality takes a nosedive. Go with the original ending, as seen in theaters. I didn't think it was a "happy, rosy" ending or anything. And it sure looks a lot better. ![]() Last edited by Cyclonus; 02-28-2003 at 10:50 PM.. |

You're right though. The movies are about as different as Apples and Cucumbers. |
