AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON OVERRATED?

I was recently able to view An American Werewolf in London, and although I liked it, found it to be very overrated! I thought it was very slow, and I never got into the movie that much!

I did find it pretty funny. The whole seen in the porn theatre was hysterical! What are your thoughts? Overrated?

An American Werewolf in London B (I was expecting an A! )

I don't think this movie is overrated!

If I had to limit me of one "favorite Horror Movie" this would be it. It's not only the best Werwolf Film I've ever seen ( HOWLING doen't really come close ), it's the best Horror/Comedy there is. I love this movie, it perfectly blends Scares and Laughs. I was scared shitless by the Underground-Train scene, Train Stations scare the shit out of me since I first watched this scene.

I know, it's difficult to like a movie that everybody refers to as classic, and you just don't get it. I've got my Problems with EXORCIST and even DAWN OF THE DEAD as well. I understand why they are praised, but that doesn't mean I like them. Still, AMERICAN WERWOLF is, at least for me, a truly cool movie. When I'm rich and famous ( when I got money ) I will buy this one on DVD.

Maybe it helps if you see this movie again, but no gurantees.

AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON (1981) Directed by John Landis. David Naughton and Griffin Dunne star as two Americans traveling through the foggy English moors, where they cross paths with a werewolf, yielding deadly results, natch. Jenny Agutter co-stars as Naughton’s pretty love interest. Outstanding, Oscar-winning makeup FX by Rick Baker, sympathetic characters and an aduacious sense of humor make this film a winner! Definitely NOT overrated! One of the best werewolf films out there (along with THE HOWLING, SILVER BULLET, WOLF and THE WOLF MAN). My grade: B+

I thought it was pretty good, deserving its good reputation. A solid if not totally oringal story, great SFX, good acting, good characters (Something of a rarity in most horror movies) and possibly best of all lots of humour, which fitted in seamlessly with the horror elements. A classic - possibly, a good movie certainly.

Although I liked it a lot, and it is one of the best werewolf films around, it ended too suddenly for me and didn't really finish the film off in my opinion.

I must admit, i need to check it out again, cos y'all love it so much. I LOVED the original attack scene when the two dudes are out in the moors. Very well done. But i hated the elements of comedy. Anyway, i still say OVERRATED cos it didn't hit me when i first saw it so it can't be that good.

Also, THE HOWLING is DEFINATELY OVERRATED! I KNOW i hate that movie.

SILVER BULLET IS KING OF ALL WEREWOLF MOVIES.

This has got to be one of the best horror flicks ever. Great story line, great acting, and the scariest transformation (in the living room) I've ever seen -- makes the howling werewolves look, literally, like overgrown teddy bears, in my opinion. The comedy just adds to the horror -- especially the sudden shower appearance by his buddy, and his buddy in the theater trying to get him to commit suicide. The dream sequence is fantastic, the original bite scene is horrific (that's just what we're after, right?), and sense of foreboding by the villiage taverners is well respected. You can almost feel his pain during the transformations! You just can't go wrong with this movie.

I haven't seen the sequel, in Paris, so let me know if it even comes close, please...

I didn't care that much for the Paris one, got extra credit in my french class for watching it though. I do however enjoy London and agree that it has the best transformation scene ever.

I like both American Werewolf In London and Silver Bullet just about the same..I still can't believe how horrible Werewolf In Paris looked due to the CGI werewolves....

Although sometimes I enjoy CGI when its used sparingly and during the right moments but Nothing beats classic makeup and effects not even if its Computer Generated...
