Hellraiser: Deader - 3.5 out of 5

I'm watching these in an ass-backwards fashion having seen Hellraiser: Inferno then skipping to Hellraiser: Hellworld. I've yet to see Hellseeker and i'm not entirely certain i'll ever bother watching Hellraiser: Bloodline. But this was just great. I was in the mood for something fairly undemanding this evening and Deader was just the ticket. It's a handsomely directed movie with a cracking central performance from the gorgeous Kari Wuhrer. I'll be making it something of a priority now to check out Rick Bota's other entry in the Hellraiser series. Having seen this I expect that i'll be entertained.

Slumber Party Massacre - 2/10

LOL @ THIS CRAP

Student Bodies 4/10

It was sort of funny, but it lost a lot of it's steam quickly.

Too bad the DVD didn't offer up THIS image above, the original Spooky-as-all-HELL poster art.

Paramount strikes again!

A very creepy oddity from the 70's that deserves a closer look.

9/10

Five Dolls For An August Moon - 3/10
a group of very unlikable characters (which makes it hard to care about them when they die) are stuck on an island and slowly get killed off. boring and uninteresting giallo from Mario Bava, poorly acted, terrible soundtrack and as with most of these types of films the revelation at the end is completely retarded

The Burning Moon - 1/10
piss poor film, terrible direction and cinematography (it looks like a damn tv soap). the director also has no clue about how to direct actors, the performances are all terrible. the only half decent thing about the film is the gore and even most of that is laughable

Desperation.

Eventhough many of the things in the movie really didn't translate well into film (it came off way too preachy), I really liked it. Some of it was way too cheap and made me feel I was watching some 10 dollar independent movie (the flashback to Bryan's accident was hilarious), same goes for some of the directing choices which more than stylish just looked damn amateur. Thankfully most of the directing is slick. I liked the acting (David did really well) and they did well at condensing the story into a two hour movie.

Still, decent adaptation. 7/10.

Salo: 120 Days of Sodom - 4/10. Finally got a chance to see this infamous flick. I don't think I will ever look at chocolate syrup and marmalade the same again.

Battle Royale - 10/10. Another movie I finally got around to seeing, and I'm glad I did. This movie had it all and entertained me from the opening scene until the closing credits.

I dont think Hard Candy was really a horror. It was disturbing yeah but i dont think you can classify it as horror. It was those things but not really for the purpose of a horror movie

You're really convincing me to finally check this out. I love Hellraiser: Inferno but haven't seen Hellseeker, Deader or Hellworld. I need to get busy.

finally got round to starting this series after years of hearing about them but never seeing them. overall i liked it, the acting and dubbing was mostly annoying and the script (as far as the subtitles go) was poor at times. i also couldnt believe how stupid some the characters were at the end. despite those problems, the scenes with the Knights Templar are excellent, their complete silence aside from the quiet shuffling of feet was very creepy and while i rarely like slow motion it worked perfectly for the scenes of them riding their horses giving it an otherworldy feel. i look forward to checking out the other 3 films

I didn't think I was going to care much for this movie by the time it ended, but I was surprised to find that once it did end and I was able to completely make sense of it all, I actually really liked it. Once the film is over it's easier to appreciate not being able to tell reality from fantasy.

The only negative thing I can say about this film is that not enough entertaining or original things happen to keep me intrigued. The concept is interesting for a while, but it does borderline on boring in the second half. Also, there was one scene near the end that could have just been completely cut altogether since it just kept us from getting to the conclusion quicker and had no relevance.

People will give this film a bad rating unfairly because they didn't understand the ending. I'm not embarrassed to admit that it took me at least a minute afterwards to completely get it and once I did I enjoyed the film much more.

Mystics In Bali - 8/10
one of the strangest films ive ever seen, poorly acted and dubbed but its so off the wall that it works. pretty gory at times with some pretty good effects, the floating head is done surprisingly quite well. entertaining stuff

Knocking On Death's Door - 4/10
if the direction had been even remotely good this might have made for a fun waste of time but it isnt. there are some really poor effects in this, pointless scenes and shots which arent needed. the acting is soso as is the script. unintentionally funny more than anything else

Tombs Of The Blind Dead 2: Return Of The Blind Dead - 6/10
rather mundane sequel to Tombs of the Blind Dead, terrible acting, poorly paced and it even reuses footage from the first film

Flowers In The Attic - 5/10
great premise but i just didnt care for any of the characters and didnt understand how they could live in a room for as long as they did. mostly good performances though

Hellraiser - 9/10

Scarier than I thought it would be. I now need to watch the rest of the series.

Halloween H20 - 6/10

Started off well, then it actually got in to the main plot of the film, and it sucked.

Kill, Baby...Kill! - 6/10
decent acting and direction with some nice sets but it's very forgettable. in fact right after it had finished i found it difficult to remember a lot of it.

American Crime - 6/10
surprisingly decent STV thriller about some members of a news crew looking for a killer. the performances are all pretty damn good and while Elwes OTT acting wasnt that bad at first it quickly got very irritating. the direction is alright and the plot was pretty good although there were a number of inconsistencies...especially when it came to the actual video footage

The House Of Witchcraft - 5/10
another mediocre film from Umberto Lenzi, the acting (aside from the lead actor) is all pretty good. the script is decent but the direction is mostly pretty poor and very repetetive. the plot isnt very interesting and the old lady was just very annoying. the effects are pretty bad as well. the ending was also laughable

Frankenfish - 7/10
retarded name, rather fun film. alone the same lines as other such people hunt giant animal thats killing people. the acting is mostly pretty good aside from the lawyer guy who was terrible. the direction is alright but the CGI could have been better. some of the occurances were hilarious though, especially during the attack on the house boats, i couldnt stop laughing at one point. stupid but fun

Satan's Playground - 7/10
Tomasellis most recent film is pretty good although far from being as good as Horror. i liked the direction and theres some good gore, specifically a lovely gushing slit throat. the only real problem is the acting which is mostly pretty damn bad and very distracting which is a shame because it has a pretty good plot

Funny Man - 3/10
very disappointing horror flick, the acting is terrible and the direction is just as bad. he can't direct the actors and has the "Funny Man" talk to the camera a lot which is just terrible and really doenst work. it tries to be funny but i chuckled mainly because of how retarded it all is

Willard (71) - 7/10
since i love the remake so much i finally got round to seeing this and i mostly liked it. the performances are mostly good (although a few of the actors were very annoying). the script is mostly good as well. the story is pretty much the exact same as the remake aside from the lack of large effects. there are quite a lot of rats though. there were some problems with pacing at times though and there were a few scenes which could have easily been snipped out. twas good fun though

Cookers - 8/10
more of a paranoid drama than a horror film but i see most reviews classify it as one. i was surprised to find out its directed by the same guy that did American Crime which i saw a couple of days ago. its very well acted (there's only 3 cast members in this, all of whcih are great). its got a good plot about a couple of drug makers who created a drug which can cause paranoia and hallucinations, they test it (a lot) and start losing it. very entertaining and pretty well scripted with some nice direction...a very nice surprise
