Hellbound: Hellraiser II

Excellent sequel that surpasses the original in many aspects. A tighter script, better effects, better imagery (the labyrinth kicked ass, now that was creepy stuff), and it's also scarier (one of the few movies that creep me out; the skinless Larry apparition "I am in hell: Help me" still gives me teh shivers), which is saying a lot because the original Hellraiser was somewhat scary too. I also really liked how they expanded the universe and took the story in a new direction. Too bad the human drama is totally MIA (although I liked the whole going-to-hell-to-find-Larry aspect) and the villain, while awesome, isn't as interesting as Frank from the first.

Both the original and the remake are tight 8/10's. Very good movies. I hope the remake is just as good.

I gave the first one a 9/10 and the second an 8/10... I liked the sequel, but there were a few moments where for once I said "OK, now that needs some explanation". I did not understand a bit of what happened with Channard's demise or a few of the other things. Granted, the first one didn't have a whole lot of explanation, but it worked with that, not in spite of it. Also, I want my house to be built out of the material their house was... After it burns down, wait a while, till some cops come to investigate, and it'll rebuild itself... Awesome.
Still, it manages to be entertaining despite the flaws, and that is something I really appreciate.

DELLAMORTE DELLAMORE (a.k.a Cemetary Man)
10/10
(Re-watch)
I wish they made more films like this. Sure it's a horror movie. But it's so much more than that. It's almost as if David Lynch tried to make a Dario Argento film. Somehow it seems that I wouldn't like it, but I love it. This movie has just made it onto my top 10 list of the '90's.

I also would recommend this film to you, X-Nightcrawler, as it reminds me in ways of the Hellraiser films. It's not exaclty in the same vein, so to speak, but it's got a lot of the same vibe. Except it's not as clear cut as Hellraiser.

As with a lot of Harlin's newer material, I found it enjoyable, just not that great. I feel it's about on par with Dominion: Prequel to The Exorcist as well, it's just not a story that really needs to be told, regardless of the version.

Just like the first movie so whatever you would rate the first one rate this one. R. Lee Ermey was hilarious...

THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE (1974)
9/10
First watch.
Yes, now I can finally say that I've seen the masterpiece of horror. What was amazing to me is how it still packs a punch after over 30 years. I think it mainly has to do with the sickening and sudden way things go downhill fast when the house is discovered. I mean, it really is sudden and it's that sudden sucker punch that was sadly missing from the 2003 version which took a bit too long to get things started (don't get me wrong, I love the 2003 version).

2001 MANIACS
7/10
First watch.
A fun, gorey, and often times hilarious ode to the exploitation films of old. I think in that respect it suceeds much more than either Cabin Fever or Hostel as there's just a fun air to this movie, where the latter two were just boring gorefests. Plus, since I do so much dislike most of the redneck culture around me, it was funny for me to see the screwed up Southern cariactures.
