The third one's entertaining in a bad way .

New Nightmare (Wes Craven, 1994)

Gotta give props to Craven for his great sense of humour. Possibly the best in the franchise after the original mainly thanks to the cool 'self-spoof' idea behind it that Craven later expanded on with Scream. The scares, script and direction are all of a considerably better quality than in those cheesy sequels. This has it's fair share of cheese too though, try not to crack up when Heather Langenkamp goes to see Wes Craven about her scary dreams. Also, to paraphrase Hamlet: child actors suck.

How I love New Nightmare!

I watched Trick 'R Treat, I am leaning towards a 3.5/5 rating for it. Should have a good review later on tonight.

And Zombieland which I thought was a lot of fun, good time flick and Woody was the shit and Emma Stone, I now wanna nail you too. 4/5 for sure.

Saw Martyrs the other night. Enjoyed most of it, but found it a bit overhyped. The final part was tediously slow, maybe because I found the main character severely underdeveloped which made all the shit going on have less impact on me than I would have wanted. Still, it was a good film, really well directed and acted. 6/10.

It's Alive remake - Really, really mediocre film. Tried to take itself too serious which is difficult when the film is about a killer mutant infant.

Very mediocre but I wasn't really expecting much. Funny that they put a small supporting actor on the cover only because she is attractive.

LATE NIGHT MOVIE TIME!

by Cory Carr

Last night was a double feature. Some friends came over for BEER and while we drank BEER, we watched:

1. I AM LEGEND - Ok, but not as good as it could have been.
2. SLITHER - Great! Really fun, with a great use of puppets and prosthetics. The CGI was used sparingly, which made me very happy.

Lurking Fear (Ashley Laurence and Jeffrey Combs)

3/5

Not bad for a direct to video release despite being hammy and the creatures looking like something straight out of Spencer's.

Hey. It has the always lovely and talented Ashley Laurence. She spends most of the movie in a tank top and basically a Sarah Conner clone but I have the hots for Ashley.

The Hills Have Eyes II - 7/10
I only got around to watching this last night, which is odd considering I really liked the first of the remakes. What surprised me even more is how much I actually enjoyed this film too. There were times when I laughed at the dialogue, or thought the movie was descending into gratuitous gore territory, but I was still hooked from start to finish. I was rooting for a couple of the characters as well, which was also unexpected since the characters in so many horror movies these days are just cardboard stereotypes. There were also a number of moments that made me jump or unsettled me in general, and that's all you can really ask from any horror film. So, overall I would say this is an above-average film that's great for something to throw on after dark and be entertained by. As long as you don't watch it expecting too much, or hoping for an intelligent plot and script, it's definitely worth a look.

The Orphanage 9.5/10

Really good horror mixed with tearjerker and fantasy, Belen Rueda was really good as the mother determined to be back with her adopted son

If you love the original as much as I do, don't even bother seeing this shitty, pointless sequel.

My rating:

The Descent: Part 2 - 1.5/5

Same... although if you went in expecting the glory of the first, then more fool you!

It's a great stand alone flick that tries to remain true to the original while trying to make it's own way in the realm of horror. It takes scare from the original and expands on them.

It's not like the creators could have expanded on the content/story much as the beasts are Cave Dwellers... it's not like they could go Urban and live in the sewers... Oh god... The Descent 3 has just been greenlit lol

Perfect Creature - 6/10
An original take on the classic vampire story, this is a stylish little film that only gets going about half way through. The acting isn't very good, but some surprisingly decent writing makes up for it in important moments. There are two major plot lines at play here: one with the good vampire competing with his brother for the female police officer's heart, and one with the evil brother trying to infect 1960's London with a virus that turns the inhabitants into violent zombies. For me, this movie would have been a lot better if it had concentrated on the latter, rather than the boring and cliched scenes of sibling rivalry. The prospect of vampires vs zombies is a pretty awesome one, and it just seems as though the writers behind this didn't realise the possible brilliance they had on their hands. As it is Perfect Creatures manages to be watchable, even entertaining for the second half, but it could've been so much better. The ending makes it clear they're planning a sequel, and I for one will be seeing that with relatively high hopes.

Hanger - Uncut - 9/10
Low budget and fucked the hell up, make sure to see the uncut version, the edited ones cut by around 20 minutes and removes all the good stuff.

The Bride Of Frank - 3/10
Low budget and apparently carried some notoriety, hadn't heard of it until a week ago, just bad.

Watched from the rather groovy Universal Cult Horror set I got for Christmas. This is one of the more obscure Universal horror titles, but it's a fun and actually pretty layered film. Nice pace, good humor, and some pretty headstrong acting. Just kinda throws it hands up at the end and walks away, but it was a much better flick than I anticipated.

Yeah, I though the movie was okay. I actually thought Timothy Olyphant was really good in it, suprisingly, and Steve Zahn played a complex character for once. Milla Jovovich didn't annoy me here as she does in other films, either. I guessed the twist before even seeing the movie, but I still enjoyed the way the film was presented. As you said, it was wonderfully shot and nicely paced.

Considering how much shit Roger Corman's been responsible for over the years, it's almost happenstance that just about everything fell into place for this creepy-ass flick. It's crawling with oodles of freaky imagery, a touch of psychedelia, and one of Vincent Price's most downplayed yet menacing performances. The acting gets a bit wonky outside of Price, but all in all, it's quite the effective mindfuck for its time.
