The Exorcist - 9/10

First time I've seen it in six years. I first saw the film at my friends house when I was ten years old. I couldn't even finish the damn movie and it actually traumatized me for several years. I finally summoned the courage and balls to watch the film that scared the bejesus out of me. Sadly, it didn't have the same effect on me. I did find out that it was a damn good movie. It didn't leave me terrified or scared that much, but moments of uneasiness and tension. It wasn't the flawless masterpiece that many claim, but it wasn't the boring, unintentionally funny overrated piece of shit many seem to call it either. My problems with it were the opening 10 minutes or so with Merrin in Iraq just seem to drag, IMO. It added stuff to the story, but it just made me doze off. The Kinderman character was acted well, and I guess was needed but he had too much screentime. I think Merrin should've been in it a little more as well. Anyways, the acting is absolutely fantastic. Everyone plays it real. Burstyn was great as Chris and she hit all the emotional notes amazingly. Jason Miller gave maybe the best performance of the film as the vulnerable, admirable, Rocky-like, Father Karras. You felt bad for him at the end. Max Van Sydow was great as well as Father Merrin. And of course, Linda Blair gave a still shocking performance as Regan. The directing is well done, I loved the screenplay a lot as well. The effects are still really good, even 31 years later. Sure, the head spinning thing looks cheesy now but it's still pretty effective, IMO. I dug the Karras's mother subplot, and the subliminal images of the demon are still cringe worthy. Spider Walk scene was creepy, but not holy shit scary. Overall, a great movie that seems to get way too much hate around these boards.

I rented Exorcist 2 and 3 and I'll watch them tomorrow. I guess 2 will be hard to sit through, since I haven't read a good review of it yet. It could be good for some laughs. I'm really looking forward to finally seeing part 3. I think I'll probably just skip Exorcist: The Beginning, since the plot revolves around Merrin's adventures in Iraq and even the little bit of ten minutes of it left me bored.

Always liked Kyle MacLachlan, and the "body change" thing is always nice. Nothing great on the other hand.

I just sat through my 15th or so time for "The End Of Evangelion".

Unbelievable.

And I'm about to sit and watch *gulp* Cannibal Holocaust.

UNDEAD- watched it last night on dvd. Really good some original and some not-so-original parts but it still delivered. Kinda like (but not as good as) Evil Dead 2 or Dead Alive. Enough blood, gun shots, and garden tools used as weapons for the avg. horror fan.

Well . . . I finally saw "CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST".

Although it is certainly something I won't glance at again in my LIFE, it is a quality film with tons of emotional moments.
