5 Favorite Martin Scorcese films.

I was recently watching Taxi Driver, and watching it gave me the idea of posting this. I'm sure this has been done before but what the hell.

Martin Scorcese is a great director and my favorite of all time, he's a fantastic director who I believe can do no wrong.

Unlike many people my favorite Scorcese film isn't Goodfellas, but another film starring DeNiro and Joe Pesci.

1.Casino

2.Taxi Driver

3.Goodfellas

4.Mean streets

5.The Departed

Though I was tremendously happy when Martin finally won an Oscar for The Departed, I really feel that all the other films I listed should have won him oscars.

There are so many more Scorsese films I have yet to see that I really want to such as After Hours and Gangs of New York, so I feel my list isn't really fair yet but here it is:

1. Taxi Driver (this is my favorite film of all time)
2. The Departed
3. Casino
4. Raging Bull
5. Mean Streets (I was considering putting Goodfellas here but I felt Mean Streets was more worthy of a mention since it was his break out film.)

1. Goodfellas (After a recent re-watch this moved ahead of The King of Comedy, it's just so entertaining that it's impossible not to like it)
2. The King of Comedy (Better than Taxi Driver, IMO)
3. After Hours
4. Raging Bull
5. Mean Streets

Well sir... I haven't seem all of his movies. Heck, I haven't see all of his that I own. But here are the ones I do own:

Taxi Driver
Goodfellas
Casino
Bringing Out the Dead
Gangs of New York
The Aviator
The Departed (2 disc)

The ones I've seen:

Taxi Driver
Goodfellas
Bringing Out the Dead
The Departed
Mean Streets
Raging Bull
After Hours
The Color of Money
Cape Fear

Out of the ones I've seen, I'd rank them like this:

Taxi Driver

Raging Bull
Mean Streets
After Hours
Cape Fear
The Color of Money
Bringing Out the Dead

4. The Departed
5. Casino (Perhaps his most underrated film and there are times when I like it more than any other. Despite definite similarities to Goodfellas it has such an infectious charm, such a great setting (Vegas, baby!) and incredible performances. I remember the first time I saw it I nearly died of love.)

Great post! I love Marty.

1)Taxi Driver - I find this to be one of those movies that really sticks with me. It takes a master to make such a subtle, dark, character piece work so effectively.

2)The Departed - This film, beyond being well acted, shot, written etc, really encapsulates a world of paranoia and modern angst which is especially apt thematically. Not to mention important given the current world state.

3)Goodfellas - This movie fascinates me. It's epic story-telling.

4)Mean Streets - The shot when Harvey Keitel is drunk in the bar, you know what one I'm talking about, well, that shot gives me a boner.

5)Gangs Of New York - This was the first Scorsese film I ever saw. Daniel Day-Lewis/Bill The Butcher is still my bench-mark for good-acting. How he didn't win the oscar is beyond me.

I don't know if I'm ready to crave this list into stone yet, not including Raging Bull in the top five seems rather blasphemous. However off the top of my head i'd say these are my 5 faves.

My favorite movies are narrated and these two really take the cake, I think these movies represent a good inside look at organized crime and the life of mob bosses.

3. Raging Bull
4. Taxi Driver
5. The Departed - Opening 10 minutes is my favorite dialogue

The problem with Cape Fear is that Robert chews up the movie and the movies finale gets rather wild and retarded.

My top 5 fave Scorsese flicks:

5. Casino - Goodfellas, Las Vegas style.

4. Last Temptation Of Christ - Best. Jesus. Movie. Ever.

3. Raging Bull - Best. Boxing. Movie. Ever.

2. Taxi Driver - When I first this movie as a kid, what I liked most about it was that, for the time, I couldn't tell where the story was going to next. Even at a young age, I appreciated the unconventionality of the story.

1. Goodfellas

You just can't beat this gangster movie for charismatic energy. Scorcese pays close attention to the minute details that the mafia engage in for the sake of maintaining the lifestyle that they have become accustomed to. Also, the director shows how that type of self-contained lifestyle can only eventually crumble as the outside world continually changes & evolves.

I still sadly need to see a few of his movies. Namely Taxi Driver, Mean Streets, The Age of Innocence and The Last Temptation of Christ among a few others.

But my top 5 Scorsese flicks:

1. Goodfellas
2. The Aviator
3. Bringing Out the Dead
4. The Departed
5. Casino

Before you ask, I have the Departed #1 because while I actually recognize Taxi Driver and Goodfellas to be better overall, The Departed is what drew me to becoming not only a Scorsese fan (Who's my favorite director) but also what drove me to become a film fan and a schmoe here.
