Tim Burton: Genius or just Crazy?

I personally think this man is a genius, sure he has had a few bad movies but he is great when it comes to directing and writing them. Has anyone heard about the new Batman he is doing? I wanna find out more about it.

I agree. a little of both. He totally screwed up the opportunity to make a faithful adaption of the novel Planet of the Apes, instead making a crappy 're-imagining' And then he makes fun of the whole concept on the DVD commentary....that really pissed me off.No wonder the movie was crap with his attitude.

And then he has made one of the best films ever made in Ed Wood. Go figure.

I had no idea he was doing another Batman, you sure about that?

I have so far loved every Tim Burton movie i've seen. The only ones I ain't seen are Planet of the Apes and Pee Wee's Big Adventure. Everything I have seen? Solid gold. Pure genius.

Tim Burton is a pure genius and like every genius, yes, he is a little crazy. But I love the man as an artist -- he's got great visual style and he's a unique director today. Most of his films were great (the two BATMAN movies, SLEEPY HOLLOW, BEETLEJUICE, PEE WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE, ED WOOD, EDWARD SCISSORHANDS) and I really think he's one of the best directors in Hollywood today.

I dont know if he's a genious, but I love his work.

I dont think he's crazy at all. He just has a unique, gothic way of looking at the world and he manages to express this with incredible visual style. I love that he shows how life isn't always happy-go-lucky, and when it, there is a dark flip side. His best films don't patronize kids nor do they alienate adults. He's like a darker, creepier Spielberg (in his earlier days, that is).

He has said he wouldn't know a good script if it hit him in the face. Henceforth you will get genius achievement in Ed Wood; pr ill-advised waste in Planet of the Apes. In the future if he has the good fortune of being presented with good material he will be known as a genius. Crazy isn't such a good word to be known by as a director. Inventive is better.

i think he is very overrated.ive only really loved one of his films and that was batman.beetlejuice was ok but ed wood was boring, mars attacks was crap, planet of the apes was a travesty on the original, batman returns was overacted,i havent seen pee wees big adventure and dont intend too, edward scissorhands was shit and sleepy hollow i stopped watching after an hour cause it just didnt hold my attention.you can tell i dont rate him cant you.if you want to talk about great directors then theres tony scott, richard donner, steven spielberg, james cameron, robert zemeckis and rob riener.

What are you talking about? Edward Scissorhands is an AWESOME movie, really amazing, and the same goes for Sleepy Hollow.

Genuis! He is one of my favorite directors and the only one I've given more than one 10/10 too (Edward Scissorhands & Beetlejuice). Ironically, I still haven't seen ED WOOD yet, which is supposed to be his best film.

The guy's both crazy and brilliant, that's the beauty of it. I can't explain it, you know exactly what I'm getting at right guys!

He thinks of all these weird things but he has such a great imagination!

Ok. Everyone here who HASN"T SEEN PEE WEE"S BIG ADVENTURE please do so. You won't regret it. It is the third greatest kids movie of all time, right behind Gonnies as #1 and Sandlot as #2.

Anyway,it wsa Tim Burton who originally made me love movies the way that I do today. His only bomb was planet of the apes. But he makes up for it with Ed Wood, beetlejuice, sleepy hollow, batman, batman returns, mars attacks, and pee wee! He is awesome!

Genius. There's nobody else in my opinion (except Terry Gilliam) who has Burton's eye for visuals. Yes, he has quite a gothic look to his films, and in his best work (EDWARD SCISSORHANDS) he combines his gothic look with a fairy tale story to create one of the most enchanting films of all time. And yeah, PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE is a classic in demented mania.

Maybe not a genius, but an excellent filmmaker. Not crazy, but he's got one unique and just plain wacky imagination!

Uh, I didn't see anyone mention FRANKENWEENIE. Your nearest video store MAY have it in the children's section, and check it out. It's a half hour spoof on Frankenstein (go figure) about a boy trying to re-animate his dog. Not too bad, and that's what got him the chance to do Pee Wee's Big Adventure.

Hope I peeked someone's interest.

He is an artist, some like to cut off their ears, or hang themself or get a sex change, Tim Burton doesn't do that, but he is a bit weird (arn't we all). I love the man!

I am really not sure about this post...but I have yet to see a Tim Burton movie worth watching (Ed Wood, possibly if I am in the right frame of mind) and, worse than that, I walked out of Mars Attacks and Sleepy Hollow...I sense a beating over this so I'll keep my views of the Coens to myself...

P.S. That last part was a joke, but I really do dislike Burtons movies beyond the production values...

I'll go with... genius! One of the reasons why Tim Burton is one of my fav directors is because he so unique. He's got a wonderful visual style, and his films are just amazing to watch.

Tim Burton is a nutcase... Artist but totally fucked up--like all artists...

Everything he has made has a certain style and crazyness. But PEE-WEE sucks hard... it is one of the worst movie ever created, but it has something of a childish fun that makes it less annoying...
Planet of the Apes wasn't THAT bad, it just wasn't a BURTON movies, it was executive directed... a pure hollywood shite. Popcorn fun and nothing more.
The rest are fine, even Mars Attacks is fine by me! I liked it, even though it is not a very good movie.
That's it.
