Jeepers Creepers
Jeepers Creepers:
Remember the 80's? It was the time to be a horror fan. Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street were the hottest movies on the street. Kids loved the scary stuff. Unfornately, I am to young to remember to 80's. (I'm 17) Through the miracle of Blockbuster video and the internet, I began to fall in love with horror movies from the 1980's. They were cheesy, but they were fun. Today horror films have taken a back seat to big budget movies. The same old thing is pumped out year after year. Romantic comedies staring Julia Roberts and such. Straight up horror films pretty much disappered for a while. However once in a while one does get out. Jeepers Creepers is one of these films. It is not amazing, but it a nice change of pace and a pretty cool piece of fluff. The basic story revolves around someone or something chasing a brother a sister around. Not much more. The acting is decent from all the characters, except for the pyshcic lady. AHHH did she ever need a slap to the face. Thankfully her time is the movie was mercifully short. There are a few reasons that this holds up today. It is a (minor spoiler) monster movie. There are hardly any straight up monster movies anymore. It was such a good change of pace from slashers and giant animal movies. The creeper really has personality. He examplifies it without saying a word. His many looks, his axe, his clothes, and his lair all add alot character and create an interesting monster. The gore was alright, but nothing amazing. It was a pretty low budget film. Jeepers Creepers was refreshing compared to alot of horror films we are given to watch today. However, when comparing J.C. to the movies of yesteryear (particulary Pumpkinhead), one can cleary see that J.C. with a little bit more polish on the script could have been a classic. Pumpkinhead worked because it had a pretty decent story, good actors, good characters that didn't deserve Pumpkinhead, great deaths. and a good score. Jeepers Creepers had alright gore, actors, score, and a great monster. Hopefully the sequel will improve upon the few negative aspects I saw. A script with a little more depth and perhaps a little more gore or gore in a creative way could really turn Jeepers Creepers into a great franchise. J.C. also gets special credit in my book. For a critically panned monster movie, it has raked in (I believe) over $70 million. That points out that horror movies are still in demand. Good work Jeepers Creepers. I give it a 6/10 and reccomend seeing it. By the By this is my first review and if it sucks please tell me. I would like to work on and sharpen writing. Any suggestions are great. Your review doesn't suck. As a matter of fact, it's accurate! Jeepers Creepers is a fun throwback to '80s-style creature features, which is precisely what the genre needs. I, too, wished for the demise of the psychic. She tainted the celluloid by "clearing up" things that didn't need clearing up. The viewer could have easily figured out The Creeper's habits without her superfluous "enlightenments." And Romero, The Convent kicks almighty ass!

I thought the psychic character was a helluva lot of fun.. a cryin' shame how the poor girl gets a bad rep 'round these parts....~!!
She kinda reminded me of an older, fatter crazy ralph!! It would've seeing get getting ripped apart in the cop-shop shootout (come to think of it..I could've done with ALOT more gore!!!). just you wait...she'll gets her's.. |

*******SPOILER IFFIC*********
just my 2c. Altho i didnt really enjoy the movie that much, I loved the ending... That was more like it! I am sooooo used to these last minute, "Hey what about that item we discovered in act 2which could probably come in usefull right about now - oh johnny im so glad we all escaped..." kinda skits... i kinda got a funny feeling in my tummy to see the creeper fly off into the night with that chump. Then to see him in the final scene all fucked up, almost bought a tear to my eye... Unfortunately, altho the ending rocked, there wasnt enough in the movie to warrant my overall personal appreciation... Gorehound calls a raincheck... |

Jeepers Creepers- 10/10
Rated R for Terror, Gore and Nude Corpses. This movie blew me away. The entire flick I was at the edge of my seat with my eyes open in excitement. A brother and sister are heading home for the holidays and taking the scenic route. They are driven off the road by a huge truck and scared half to death because of a story Gina Phillips heard a long time ago. They drive along and see the same man throwing what looks like a body down into a pipe. They decide to investigate and things turn to shit for the two unlucky siblings. Gore- 7/10 Decap, cut off arm and leg, leg run over till it comes off, heart ripped out and the last scene. Nudity- 0.5/10 Nude Corpses, not fun nudity. Matt |

Jeepers Creepers was a kickass movie that had the whole return to the classic era of horror vibe to it,for the time of its release,it should be considered a classic,it helped us get rid of the IKWYDLS,Screams,Valentines, urban legends,etc.....the creeper is a badass monster, and the writing was very well, salva is an awesome in terms of filmmaking,i dont put what he did behind the scenes with the films he makes, because thats not what I look for.....5.5/10

This movie is alright but in my oppinion no way near a classic. The beginning was fairly tense with a dash of Duel and Texas Chainsaw Massacre but the middle made it a cheesy monster movie. There were no scares at all in this movie but I do appreciate Salva's attention to style and detail. I think he is a good director and his direction saved this from being total dreck. I liked this movie when i first saw it but when I watched it again the middle kind of killed all my praise for it. This one falls middle of the road for me......5/10

MichealMyersFan, there's actually a lot of proof pointing towards yes. Many think the creeper did have a touch of homosexuality in his character (after all, Jeepers Creepers was written by Salva).
Oh, and I thought the creature looked fantastic!!!!! Matt |

I thought the Creeper stole the show. His presence really helped. I mean the scene when the Darry and Trish are arguing and in the back we can see the creeper on the roof of the car was classy. another interesting note, if you have the DVD and watch the deleted scenes, the Creeper talks. Thank everything they cut that! In my opinion, having the creeper talk took away soo much menace. smart move on Salva's part.

Yeah, I'm relieved that The Creeper kept his yapper shut, save for his melodious whistling. The deleted scene wasn't awful (I dug the cajun accent), but a silent villain is much more effective than a talkative one.

The first fifteen minutes of this film can only be described with one word: Terrifying. The movie goes along at a really good pace, with a few good chills along the way, but then you get a look at the killer. Ruined the entire film for me. I knew that it was a creature film when I rented it, but I expected more. This creature simply dosen't do for me what Freddy or Michael, or even Leatherface did. Plus, there was no really good explanation for where the creeper came from or why he does what he does. He just kills and eats. That's it. That premise alone waters down the plot. Maybe instead of doing a sequel, they should go along with the current trend and create a prequel to give a little explanation to what the Creeper is. Not a bad film, but I have seen better.

The first half of the film hooked me in with the suspense and I liked the fact that it was so character driven. I'm not sure what happened in the last half, it was like the plot just deteriorated. I started losing interest by the time the brother and sister arrived at the diner, and the characters introduced afterwards like the psychic and the cat lady were irritating and ho-hum. The ending at least packed a punch and the Creeper was just shudder-inducing.

"That's the second biggest monkey head I've ever seen".
Yea the Monkey Island/Lucas Arts games did kick ass. I was thinking. Alot of people complain about Jeepers Creepers because of how the movie is structured. The first 45 go for the less in more approach well the 2nd half goes for the B-movie monster feel. How could Salva have made this film continue the flow of the first half. I personally think it makes sense to have the unknown force become something worse then they could ever have imagined. If the monster stayed hidden, I can't think of a way to continue the film. The Creeper kept the story going. I don't know. If anyone thinks of a clever way to keep the Creeper hidden and the story interesting and cool, post it. I personally saw no problem in how the film went. Any ideas are great. |

JEEPERS CREEPERS
6/10 Okay here it goes... When I heard about Jeepers Creepers I immediately wanted to watch it. Then I saw the previews and I really wanted to see it. So when I finally did see it I was a little let down. Don't get me wrong, it isn't terrible. Just not what I expected. UP SIDE -Opening car chase-Fucking intense -Pipe scene-Classic horror -Wall of bodies-Brrrrrrrr -The Creeper-Bad ass -The ending-Brrrrrrr...again DOWN SIDE -Psychic lady-What the hell was the point? (this downside almost ruined the whole movie for me) -Dialogue-I know they're bro&sis, but it still is irritating and I dont think it's too realistic -The ending-I know it's confusing SPOILER ALERT*************************** I don't mind that he died, but come on, I wish there was a little more of a fight put up. SPOILER END***************************** I know there were more upsides, but the downsides were really annoying and pissed me off. I also understand that a lot of you love the movie and that's fine and good and remember this is my opinion not a proven fact. Survey says... RENT IT! |

I heard of Jeepers Creepers from my dad. He said it was really good, and he usually has good taste, so I rented it. I wasn't too pleased, though.
****Possible Semi Spoilers**** *** *** *** *** I really didn't know what to expect, so when it started out I was sort of 'Oh no, not one of these alone-in-the-middle-of-nowhere movies.' That sort of changed when she said not to go back because it was like stupid people in horror movies, but what do you know, they go back anyway. Go figure. From there it went downhill. I was really hoping the Creeper was going to be some sort of superhuman like Jason Voorhees or Michael Meyers, so I was severely disappointed when he sprouted wings and turned into ... something so much less scary. The acting was alright other than the fat piece of shit psychic.. oops I got excited. I really hated her, though. The whole sniffing of the kids clothes was a bit lame. Actually the whole monster in general was a bit lame. I do love monster movies, but I draw the line at mutated Man-Bats. *** *** *** *** ****End Spoilers, if any**** Overall: 5/10. |
