I would suggest renting it first. Most Blockbusters and Hollywood videos carry this flick.

I haven't seen it myself, but here's a review I found on it.

Sure you can get it !!! what the heck !! you must own it !!!
All the slasher fans have to own this great flick from the mid 70's ?
Sure it is not your usual cheesy slasher, no, you don't have that.
However if you look for a creepy, gloomy atmosphere, full of symbols.
Very good and the characters are believable, good couple : the former Spages couple.
The bodycount is weak and it is not gory at all but the film does not need that.
9/10

Yeah it is a good seventies slasher that has beautifuly filmed sets and a good story. The DVD has an informative commentary by the director Alfred Sole and the editor. It's a keeper in my collection. I give it a 9/10 as well.

This movie is very very good. A top of the otch 70's slasher, it's funny though, i bought itfor 2.99 dvd at Sam Goody (or Suncoast) and now they moved the price up to like 30 bucks, still think its worth that much, its great.

Jason13th was dead on about this one. I initially didnt like it after the first viewing but now i think its worthy of its praise. The acting is way above par and the cinematography was top notch in this. I own the vhs format of the anniversary edition and the quality is amazing on that so i can imagine how good the dvd is. This movie grows on u i think and gets better after every viewing. I also thought the music was excellent in this movie. One of the better scores i have heard.

This is a weird as shit movie. I liked it but Ihate seeing evil kids in movies and the girl in this is just creepy. I read that it was a 21 year old that played her, becuase of the psycological content. I sure wouldn't want my kid to play in a movie like that. It is a good rent it is right up there with "Sisters"

I've owned this on video for about 10 years now...time for me to upgrade to the DVD...

damn good flick, creepy atmosphere, works as a nice little whodunit as well as a horror movie and just a decent night with a good flick and a bigass tub of popcorn...

ALICE, SWEET ALICE (1977) Directed by Alfred Sole. Filmed one year earlier under the title "Communion", but released much later than the film's completion due to the success of child star Brooke Shields (who also starred in "Pretty Baby" and "King Of The Gypsies" during the late 70's). Brooke isn't even the title character in this horror classic. That honor belongs to another excellent child actress and one-hit wonder (Paula E. Sheppard). "Alice" centers around a divorced woman (Linda Miller, daughter of Jackie Gleason; sister of Jason Miller; aunt to Jason Patric...talk about "six degrees of Kevin Bacon"!), her two young daughters (Sheppard and Shields) and the rash of spree killings linking their family to the Catholic church in their New Jersey neighborhood. Shields has the Janet Leigh-Drew Barrymore role of Alice's younger sister Karen, who is brutally slain during the film's first 15 minutes on the day of her First Communion. Suspicion falls upon her jealous, disturbed older sister (Sheppard, wearing a yellow rain slicker and creepy doll's mask for most of the film), but this whodunit is far from being simple. There are twists and turns abound, as well as excellent character development (as scripted by Rosemary Ritvo and director Sole) and interesting relationships among the interconnected characters. The unknown supporting cast (Niles McMaster, Tom Signorelli, Mildred Clinton, Alphonso DeNoble and Jane Lowry) is high-strung but effective. This gem is available on video (you'll have to hunt for it, though), and was also released under a third title: "Holy Terror". The "Alice, Sweet Alice" moniker is the most superior, reminiscent of the classic Bette Davis fright fest "Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte". My grade: An “A” for Alice.

I liked Alice Sweet Alice. It's really creepy. But I thought that WAAAAY too much of the film is spent pissing around with the pathetically useless detectives on the case. Watch it again and you'll see what I mean. They are so fuckin' useless it's suprising any of them ended up on a murder case.
