one thing im tired of....
Drug users being put in a bad light on movies. Seriously, it seems everyone who uses drugs is put on as a stupid, idiotic, dumbass that shoots everyone in sight. Now, if the guy (Or gal) is a cokehead or methamphedamine user, yea, i can understand. But ive seen movies (erm..Reefer Madnes..) that puts pot users like this. I personally think its stupid. Just once id like to see Tommy Chong act smart on screen.
Sorry if this is a rant or totally stupid. Feel free to close this if you must, but i just wanna see what other people think. |

I don't think that any of the characters in Trainspotting or Requiem for a Dream are portrayed as being "stupid or dumbass". Or are you just talking about comedies?

I know comedies make fun of drug users but that's what comedies are all about making fun of stuff.

its not just comedies, but alot of movies.
1:Reefer Madness (made back in the 70's as a serious movie) 2: watch any episode of "The Shield". Sure most of it has to do with coke and harder things, but some people cant be that stupid. |

i guess the shows are trying to keep kids away from drugs, but weed is definitly one of the lightest drugs you could do.

I have to disagree.
If one does anything harder than booze or weed (and I dont mean on a daily basis) I think they are complete and utter fucking morons, who may be getting away at functioning on a "pretend" normal level, but sooner or later their idiotic behavior WILL catch up with them.. with all the knowledge about drugs, drug awarness, addiction, overdoses in the news, major drug busts on a daily basis.... hell yes.... to get mixed up in that life makes one a total DUMBASS....what...like they're operating in the land of SMART by doing hardcore drugs???? ![]() |

I believe most of the drugusers they make fun of are the habitual ones; the kinds that can't start their day without taking a hit off something.
If you're smoking pot every damned day or anything else for that matter, you're gonna be made fun of.... especially when you black out. And Beeblebrox, most of the population smokes pot. The real question is how often do they smoke it? |

But I do have a problem when people think that everything is okay up to the point that they do it, but beyond that is somehow out of bounds. Speed_rebel, for example, is tired of movies making fun of "drug-users," but thinks that portraying coke or meth users negatively is okay. That means that his problem isn't really that the movies make fun of drug users, but that they make fun of HIM, a pot user. Well, sorry, but I don't have much sympathy for people who think that everyone but themselves can be a target for the movies. We'd have no movies if that were the case. |

Six words: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The story about one of the best writers of the twentieth century, and a hell of a drug user.
Also, Requiem For a Dream Blow They may have been anti-heroes, but they weren't necessarily bad people. |

Drugs are bad,no doubt,so why should they be portrayed in a lighter sense?

About Reefer Madness. It came out in 1938 as Tell Your Children and it was re-issued in 1947 as Reefer Madness. The Drug Movie of the 70's was Easy Rider, though it was made in 1969, it gained a lot of popularity in the next few years.

Well if you are a drug user, you should be made fun of. No offence to anyone here. It is a stupid thing to do. People are just trying to let everyone know how harmful it is.

Those people who smoke pot for medicinal purposes do not deserve to be made fun of IMO as it is a method in which the sufferer relieves pain. (Obviously! ) |

I wouldn't make fun of a drug user, but they most likely have a serious disregard for living a good long life. How many old lifelong drug users are around, excluding potsmokers?
As for alcholics, same thing, only that they most likely have a disregard for their brain cells. Getting back on track: there are very few films I have seen that portray drug users as idiots. Last edited by Jon Lyrik; 03-10-2003 at 09:35 PM.. |

Check out ALTERED STATES
They show some professors smoking pot. Also, I think in THE ICE STORM there was some pot smoking, but I might have that confused with the swinging. There's lots of movies where regular people smoke pot -- oh yeah, EYES WIDE SHUT (A doctor's wife) SLEEP WITH ME Anyway - There's movies out there. You just haven't seen them. How many old lifelong drug users are around, excluding potsmokers? HUNTER S. THOMPSON turns 66 this year.
