Exorcist: The Beginning (set visit)

Hey all...since no one else thought to start a topic about the Arrow's very cool coverage of the upcoming EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING (yes, hint, hint! , I figured I'd start one myself and see what you guys thought of it, how the film's starting to sound to you, if it felt like something you'd want to see, what looked good/bad, etc...

So what's the verdict folks?

Arrow's coverage is pretty damn comprehensive, and this is only one-third of it! He did some splendid reporting, but I must confess, I didn't read all of it. I'm just not into the Exorcist saga, and I don't have much interest in the upcoming prequel. To those who are looking forward to it, I'm sure that this set visit tickled them blood red!

From what I've read about it so far, including Arrow's set visit, this is looking to be a great horror film every day. Never saw the original EXORCIST, hated #2, but I loved #3, and I can now safely say this is a flick I'm looking forward to.

I have reached a new level of appreciation for this site. This set visit was more informative than anything else you could look up on the net for "The Exorcist: The Beginning"! I loved everything about it! I was always looking forward to this picture being a major fan of the first & third but with john's set reports I can add this to my top 10 films to look foward to for 2003 (tell that to WB)! I must say when it comes down to describing a set without giving away the scene or the plot you did a top-notch-job Arrow. I apprieciated the classic fan-boy view as opposed to the another day on the job, it makes the read twice as interesting for a fan-boy to read(ex- your 'feelings' standidng next to the Pazuzu looking statue, dat would freak me out too!)! The glance at the Gangs dock set and The Passion set (which sounds like an amazing film... arrow "hint-hinted" it) was also awsome. Needless to say this kick ass set report made my frickin day.

I am so stoked for the rest!

P.S. Lets hope Dario gets that resume man!

Well I had lots of fun on this set report and am happy that some of you found it to be an interesting read.

I didnt think much of the film before but after hearing of Paul Shrader's script polish, seeing Stellan in costume (and smoking) and visiting the many spooky sets; I think this one could be a sleeper. It might surprise us all.

NOTE TO APZOMBIE: Dario got my acting package in hand, I know that for a fact. Now lets hope HE CASTS ME (that would make my life).

Thanks for the props guys!

Wow. Talk about underwhelming.

6 responses (among hundreds of posters a day) and one of them is from the Arrow himself!! C'mon folks...do you only come on this board/site to talk amongst one another or do you actually READ the Arrow's reviews, interviews and in this case, coverage?

It's always nice to let the "house" know that you're checking out the goods and appreciating it, especially since this is one of the most popular horror sites and boards on the entire Net and yeah, we thought you all might dig on this type of stuff...

Even if you don't like the coverage or the movie, we'd like to get some feedback about this to know whether or not it's appreciated one way or the other. Was it good coverage? Should we do more in the future? Anyone, anyone...??

More coverage in the future? Definitely. Arrow's overview of the EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING set is fun to read and pretty damn consice (sp?) at that. Very good stuff, and as for more coverage of set visits in the future, I welcome it with all my geek-like anticipation.

Nice! I enjoyed the read Arrow, great stuff (I'm reviewing what I read a couple days ago, so bear with me). Some of your phrases are quite hilarious. Okay, enough critique, that wasn't the point of the report--only the icing. (Okay, more critique) However, very comprehensive, enjoyable, took some time to read, but worthwhile. I loved the info, even if I was against the studio making another Exorcist flick, now I'm looking forward to it, considering the good talent involved, and I didn't even know Schrader had stepped up to direct the film (surprise, surprise!). Plus, I find the little "hint" intriguing. Hmmm...

It was cool. I haven't read the entirity(sp?) yet,but it looks good so far. But what you said is pretty true Joblo, that I infact check the message board rather then the actual site itself. Sad,but true. I am going to make a even bigger effort of checking the site more often

Peace,
Matt

P.S.
Arrow, just wondering, but is that a skull cap your wearing in that picture of you?

Great job, Arrow!

I read The Arrow's coverage of The Exorcist shooting and found it really interesting. The reason why I didn't give any feedback earlier is just the simple matter of fact that... well, I don't think that it's a good idea to do an Exorcist prequel and that's why I can't really say anything positive about the film itself. On the other hand, I must admit that The Arrow's set report is well done... actually, it's extremely well done and made me curious about the finished film. I would love to read more about film shooting on this site!

I like this idea of set reports a LOT...I've always wanted to know more about what goes on behind the scenes in movies but I've always hated reading long, boring, and dry reports.

The Arrow made it extremely entertaining to read...it contained enough info about the sets and what was happening on them (and I'm sure there's lots more to come on the actors, etc) but wasn't anywhere near as dry or boring as the ones I'm used to reading. This was actually something I could read from beginning to end and actually ENJOY reading...

As well, it's nice to get early scoops on what's happening on the sets of different films, and while "The Exorcist: the beginning" didn't interest me that much at first, after reading the set report, i am kinda wanting to see the movie now to see how it looks in comparison with what it seems like in the set report.

And pictures are always awesome...

so YEAH, bring it on...set reports are awesome, and joblo.com should definitely keep spittin them out.

I was first and foremost drawn to this site for the reviews - it's always good to get someone else's opinion on something (a movie) before you throw down your bucks on it. I think this site is the best horror site for reviews that I've been to. I'd also like to add that the coverage for the upcoming Exorcist movie was great - better than any I could find anywhere else on the net or in print - believe me, I've looked. The original flick is my all-time horror favorite and probably my third favorite movie, period (hold a special place for the first two Godfather flicks - who doesn't?). Just wanna close by saying keep up the good work and keep it sick!

I think it's great. It really improves the site in my opinion to make it feel like the hosts are really involved with movies. They don't just read stuff, but write and see stuff. I've read arrow's stuff and definatly appreciate it. I didnt' know much about the movie prior, but now i'm looking forward to it definatly!

I really like the idea of set reports, especially hosted by the one and only, amusing and interesting The Arrow. I think it's a very neat angle to take, and it really shows the commitment ya'll bring to your site.

I don't read The Arrow's pages as much as I should, since I am not the horror buff I should be...but, nonetheless, I would *certainly* check these set reports out, since they are not only really informative, but also, excellent reads.

I think Arrow did a great job with the coverage, and personally speaking, would love to see more stuff like this happen. I never really was excited for the new Exorcist film, and even though the coverage was interesting, I'm still not. Hopefully, when I catch more trailers and see more about the production, my mind will be changed...

So, yes, the JoBlo tem should go on more of these coverages.... they need to get out of the house

ThanX ARROW!

I'm ashamed to say I didn't check it out until I read the sticky in General Movie Talk. Horror doesn't interest me much.

But the set report is fascinating. Really well-informed, in-depth and hilarious at times. More reports like this would be very welcome.. and maybe even some non-horror flicks. Great work, Arrow. I'll be checking out parts 2 and 3 when you're done with them.

I neither am a fan of the series nor see a point (besides a financial one) of another chapter, but Arrow's coverage is splendid. I didn't read every word of it, but feel that its existence is an excellent direction this site is taking.

Is there a thread or article somewhere that gives some background as to how Arrow got access to the set? There's no mention of him having a part in the movie or anything. I haven't been around for a while, so I may have missed it.

I had my doubts about The Arrow when he didnt ask Bruce Campbell ANYTHING about Bubba Ho Tep finding a distributer, but he has done an OUTSTANDING job in covering the Exorcist prequel. VERY WELL DONE and comprehensive.. AND WORTHWILE, since this is the one folks are hoping will finally make a good addition to the most popular horror film of all time. Just dont go to the set of JEEPERS CREEPERS and lower the CLASS you have developed for covering REAL HORROR films!

The coverage was great and informative. It got me more interested in a film I thought wouldn't be good, (that is the reason why I didn't read until the sticky)

I think Arrow did a great job and I look forward to parts 2 & 3 and more reports like this.
Keep up the good work.

Sorry to sound like a downer, guys, but as soon as "Aussie Captain Howdy" was mentioned I just wanted to switch off.

I hope the Exorcist prequel goes well, but the moment you mention that objectionable "Cap'n" Howdy, I just want to toss my cookies. Not all Aussies are good Aussies...take it from me.

Aside from that...Arrow's done his usual best at reporting on the latest on the horror scene. Just please, never mention that horrible wannabe again...(I can feel my dinner coming back up, honestly...)

I really liked it. The arrow really knows how to write in an intriguing way that holds your attention. He knows how to not take everything seriously but yet at the same time report all the info we want to see. I think its a great idea to send him out into the world to do coverage of upcoming movies. Plus think of all the adventures he could get into .

I wish I had posted sooner. Sorry about that. Like a lot of schmoes here this flick Im wasnt very interested in, mainly becasue I thought it wouldnt be a good idea. But after reading this report and seeing those pics of the spooky locals and churches and scary looking statues well I can safely say that my point of view has changed. Arrows visit to the "crypt" set was hilarious!

This type of report is excellent and very, very interesting to read.
We need more of these, cause hey, Id rather get my horror info here at Arrow/Joblo then anywhere else on the net! I Love arrows reviews they are allways on the money! And reports such as this are very much needed and appreciated!

The report was very well done, with Arrows usual and unique sense of humor. Very informative also. Bring them on!

I'm assuming the coverage of this exorcist prequel was up for a while and joblo posted topics about it assuming that alot of the schmoes, including myself, dont navigate through the main pages..

Just found out about the coverage and its fantastic!! The Chief is reaching new editorial heights and I hope all the schmoes are as psyched as I!! Sheesh, I'm actually considering the mofia ties that you guys must have. (Does "no longer with us" mean that you guys put a contract out on naughty schmoes?.... err.. dont answer that..)

the coverage was excellent, and I'm anxiously awaiting the next two installements. Lets hope that this kind of stuff attracts a whhoooole mess of attention to the site!

Well thanks guys for all the feedback, much appreciated from this end.

To answer a couple of question in the thread.

-Warner Brothers invited us (JoBlo.com) on the set of Exorcist The Beginning, so being that I'm the horror dude on board, I went. That's how I got there. I didn't just stumble upon the set.

- Yes, Captain Howdy was there, I dont know the lad too much or what's up between he and Fey but he was kool with me.

If you guys have any constructive questions about the film, the stars, the experience... ask away. I can't give away "spoilers" but I'll do my best to be as informative as possible.

Thanks again for the feedback guys!

The coverage was really good. It was interesting to hear about the movie. Now I'm more interested in seeing it. When's part 2 gonna be up?

Also Arrow, you were talking about the "special effect" in the scene you saw. My question is:

Is it CGI? And if so, is it the shitty, fake looking kind that seems to be the current trend?

The effect in question was a minor one and it wasn't CGI, it was a floor effect. Having said that; seeing it done live was blast!

They'll be more talk about the effects in the second segment of my report (up on Monday). Paul Shrader talks about them and Skarsgard talks about them.

Amazing report, Arrow. I've been anticipating this one for a while and your terrific report makes it look even better. The photos were my favorite part, and the reporting about the locations and basic facts about the film were interesting, as well (the tidbit about their reusing the GONY sets was especially fascinating). Sorry I didn't respond to this one earlier, I don't go to the Horror forums much! Anyway, I'd love to see more of these in the future!
