Has anyone had the problem when....
Your dvd freezes in the middle of a dvd. This keeps on happening to me. While I was watching Terminator 2 ultimate edition dvd, which i bought yesterday, the dvd froze up on me. I pressed next scene on my remote but it kept on freezing up about every five minutes. It also freezes up in my matrix dvd but with other dvds, such as Saving Private Ryan, it doesnt... It's probally the cheap POS dvd player I have, which is Fisher of course. Can anyone recommend a good reliable dvd player that I can purchase that actually works and doesnt freeze up all the time?

I just bought my DVD player yesterday (woohoo!!) and it is a Samsung DVD-611. It was very well rated on Consumer Reports so heres CR's list of best DVD's in order:
1. SONY DVP-S570D $430 2. SONY DVP-S560D $300 3. TOSHIBA SD1200 $225 4. HITACHI DVP305U $200 5. SAMSUNG DVD-612, 611, or 511 $200-180 6. RCA RC5215P $300 7. PANASONIC DVD-RV30 $230 8. PHILIPS DVD711 AT21 $220 9. PIONEER DV-333 $250 10. SHARP DV-710U $200 11. JVC XV-523GD $230 12. APEX AD-600A $180 13. MITSUBISHI DD-4001 $260 And just so no one gets mad, I am subscribed to Consumer Reports and I give all that "rights" crap to them. THis is just so no one calls me a stealer and horse crap. |

...hell, even my 300 DVD-changer from Pioneer does that sometimes... I always just take back the disc and see if it continues... if it does than it is a production mistake on the part od the DVD players... also sometimes it will jump if you let it sit... sure beats VHS though...

Usually on mine, they freeze for like, a second, and then they go back. This has happened on usually Fox or New Line Platnum Series Dvds. It happened on Magnolia, FightClub, Titus, and FInal Destination. This hasnt happened on my T2 yet...

The split second of freeze frame in the middle of a movie is caused by the dual layering. Some discs with a load of gear on them are actually separated into two layers of information, as the player gets to the end of the first layer it has to search back to find the start of the second layer resulting in a small pause. If the pause is anything more than a second I'd say you've got a faulty disc.
Hope this helps. |

The discmakers try to make the dual layer change between scenes whenever possible...however some discs are so jam packed that they are impossible to do so...the new DVD-18 format is making it possible to put more and more info onto many discs...
