Why don't you rent them before buying them? (What Lies Beneath was very good in my opinion)

My copy arrived today, a good DVD if not great. Pluses are DTS soundtrack as well as 5.1 and commentary and featurette, but some more extras (deleted scenes, a specific featurette on Hitchcock comparisons) would have been nice...

Well most stores in the US may get stock early, but are held back by the street release date of the disc. However, I order online from the UK so my discs get sent as soon as stock arrives

Region 1 primarily, and for What Lies Beneath (its not coming out Region 2 for months yet!) although they also hold some other non-region 1 discs such as Hong Kong films (mainly Region 0), and as mentioned in other threads the Region 3 Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and the upcoming Region 4 The Terminator: Special Edition.

I don't think anything resembling advertising is very popular, but it can be found here (that way Jo need only remove the link if he needs to )

oh god! all these region stuff is annoying, like ntsc and pal, i mean cmon let the whole world be able to use 1 region, it would be so much better....also i could already be watching the cell on dvd instead of waiting months for it to be realeased here!ok...so
region 1 - america
region 2 - u.k, europe
region3 ?????
region 0 ????
region 4 - Australia (me!!)
am i right?????????????
also...can i play other regions on my dvd? i know i cant play region 1 but how about region 2 (u.k dvd's) because i could play uk videos on my video player!

Region 3 is China, Region 0 means no region. Several discs, especially music come out region 2/4 meaning they can be played in UK/Europe/etc and Australia.

Region 2 is the most screwed up region though... UK is Region 2 PAL, France is R2 SECAM (comes out black and white on PAL-only players/TVs) and Japan is R2 NTSC (again won't play properly on most PAL sets, may even come up with a wrong region error!)

If UK videos play on Australian VCRs, it means that the VCR supports PAL, if the Australian standard is PAL (as opposed to the VCR just being dual PAL and something else) then you may have problems with some Region 0 discs, many of which are NTSC...

And Lynchfreak, you can always take refuge in the March release of what appears so far to be the Region 4 exclusive 2-disc special edition of the first Terminator film!

What a crock. Im renting from now on. That was one long ass movie. It didnt even have action until the last 30 min and it wasn't even worth it. Screw this building suspense bullshit. Nothing built. Probably because some dorks told the ending on the internet. But it seems straightlaced, then all of a sudden at the end, turns into "Psycho", with the score coming out of no where. Snoozeville.
