Chess? (hey, they show it on ESPN)

Any schmoes play Chess? I used to play it very often but haven't in a while. It would be a blast to play fellow schmoes in a game, if anyone would like to. If you would, reply here or PM me.
Anyone else a chess-player?

Back in Jr. High we had a school wide chess tournament. The final to participants played the championship game live over the tv. I kid you not, a kid in my study was shouting at the screen during the match, telling the kids what pieces to move where. It was single handedly the most sorry display from a human being I think I have ever seen. Imgaine, being such a nerd that you yell at a fucking tv chess match that you think somehow they will hear you and make the right move. Anyways, I play chess on occasion, and im proud to say that out of the whole school, I made it to the final 12 participants.

Yeah, I play chess. I'm no good at it...but I play it. It's a fun game, a smart game. But it sure as heck doesn't qualify as a sport if you ask me...

I actually watched the Man vs Machine chess championships on ESPN a month ago. Your not a gunna belive this but it was live! They play 6 matches and the winner of 4 wins the championship. The 6th and final match lasted 3 1/2 hours!! I watched the whole thing! This happens to me alot. Sometimes Ill see the Putt Putt world championships on and ill give it a watch. Anyway after 3 1/2 hours the man and the machine played to a draw!!! Therefore since they drew almost every match the championship was split. The audience was awstruck

I really like Chess, though I am not that good.

I recently tried to play online at Yahoo Games. I figured I would play at the beginers table. The first thing I tried (because its the only strategy I remember) was to go for the Fools Mate (aka 4 Move Mate). The guy I was playing definately did not fall for it, in fact he had a counter move which mated me 2 moves later. Damn. He then started to berate me, and question "who the fuck I thought I was, to try a bullshit move like that". He then kicked me off the table. What a dick.

I guess I'll stick to playing my wife, cuz she isnt very good either.

I used to play chess, but lost interest after quite a few months. I'm not smart enough to play. I like a game like Candyland or Clue even.

Chess is hands dizzown my all-time favorite board game. I can't even play checkers anymore, and often find myself asking: "Where do the red pieces move?" Only to be made an idiot, with my friend telling me: "Diagonally, like every other piece you vaginal fart."

Ok, maybe it's just my friends that talk like that. But, I do like chess.

Ah, shucks. I had to leave early, thus cancelling our game.

P.S: I was wiping the floor with his ass.

I doubt chess is a sport. I game, yes, but not a sport. And just because it's on ESPN, that's nothing. Spelling BEEs are on ESPN, and they're not sports either.

I know this thread is old but that sounds like fun! I love playing chess but haven't really played in a long time because nobody I know cares about it. I used to be okay but I probably really suck now. If anyone is up for a challenge let me know! Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I play it, but I don't play it well. I can usually take a game or two from someone that it is good, but my endgame is just wretched that it takes forever to end it.

Wish I had more time to play; If I start a game I have to give it 100% of my attention and hate getting pulled away from it. Definitly the greatest board game of all time. Three moves ahead...always.

I used to play a lot on Yahoo just because it's so hard to find people who play. I got pretty good (was rated somewhere in the 1900s) but I'm convinced people cheat using like Chessmaster while playing online so I quit. I only play people I can physically see now, which means I play a grand total of about 2 games per year.

used to play quite a bit when i was younger but don't know anybody who is interested or even remotely good at the game now so haven't played it for a number of years , i've tried some computer chess programs but can't get into them as easily as when sitting in front of the board and pieces

Got to agree; computer chess just lacks something. It's challenging (been bet way, way, way more times then I've won); it's just not the same as sitting down to a good game with someone.

I'd love to play but I'm not allowed to play chess anymore. I believe the words were, "fuck you and your chess!" Was that right, baby? :P
