Huge Deal sends Junior Seau to Miami!

Ok, now being a Miami Dolphins fan such as myself we have become fairly sick and tired of the trend being set. Win easy from September to the middle of November and then lose out and barely make playoffs and lose big there...or as in this past season not even get that far.

They had several Pro-Bowlers including Sack leader Jason Taylor and Rushing Leader Ricky Williams. Aside from them they have the best secondary in the NFL with Sam Madison and Patrick Surtain. Amazing Linebacker Zach Thomas...so what do they do?

They trade a draft pick for Junior Seau! Now I like this deal for one reason, they need a veteran player to show some leadership, someone who has been in the big game before, someone who knows how to get it done. And Seau is that guy.

Now I don't like the deal for another reason. Oronde Gadsden is a free agent and most likely will not re-sign with the Dolphins. Jay Fiedler is a back up QB and nothing more, yet they have him starting. Their best wide out now is Chris Chambers...and James McKnight is there but nothing wonderful. So now they are like the Tampa Bay Bucs before Brad and Keyshawn Johnson.

Instead of acquiring an aging and less productive linebacker for an already potent defense, why not sign Jake Plummer or trade for a QB? Why not attempt for a decent WR? Defense is the strong point of the team, and surprisingly enough now, so is their running game. But, they need a passing game to win, along with all the other ingredients.

I like Seau, but they could have done something more drastic to improve this team. I still predict a Superbowl...but I do that every season.

I know Seau very well, being a Raider fan. All I can say about this deal is...you can have him. He's extremely overrated. He's a great athlete, but a very undisciplined linebacker. Easily fooled. Most of the Charger Management, behind closed doors, has always thought that about him. But he was a fan favorite, so they would have been crucified had they traded him any earlier.

Good luck. Gadsden was the only receiver you had.

Haha

The Dolphins will never win big until they dump Wanny!

The guy has no idea what he is doing, he will slowly run the franchise into the ground.

I think trading for Seau was a mistake (even though they didnt give up much, only a 5th or 6th rounder).

He is too old, he will just be a distraction on the team.

What they really need is to get some guys in on offense.

Duuuuude, i live around Miami (not a fan, go Raiders!), and no way is Jake Plummer better than Fiedler. Fiedler faced a lot of flack in the offseason and proved he's capable of getting the job done (though he should be a little tougher, and play better in cold weather.) I do think it would be wise to trade him for some one better, but Jake Plummer?! That guy sucks!

Plummer has had potential, he just doesn't fit in with the Cardinals system. Arizona is like Cincinnati when it comes to QB's, they suffer until they leave...and even then.

Whoah whoah whoah! Gadsden was our best receiver true, but Chris Chambers is dynamite and will be one of the best WR's in the league in years to come...although he might do the same thing Gadsden is doing now. I hope he's a bust elsewhere...or stays in Miami.

Oh and the Bears have Urlacher and...nothing. Good luck if they'll even make the post-season.

After this years draft they will have Brian Urlacher and....

Brian Urlacher's little brother Casey Urlacher the Linebacker from Lake Forrest College.

Nice!

Coming from a Bills fan, I hope Seau stays as far away from Miami as possible.

Sure Wanny did horrible things in Chicago, but that wasn't only his fault. But now, he's going to be fine. I'm a big supporter of him, and I was glad Jimmy left and he took over. The fish will take the AFC East this season if they can get a good WR, or keep Gadsden...or both.

When you've got no running game and no protection, it's going to be tough for anyone. He never had a chance in Arizona, I think he's got some good skills and can be an effective NFL quarterback if he finds the right team. I'd say the Cardinals are just below the Bengals as far as dismally run franchaises.

Look at Doug Williams he played on some terrible Bucaneer teams and won a Super Bowl in Washington. Plummer's not the worst guy the Dolphins could get, that's for sure.

Oh yeah, this threads about Seau, I went off on a tangent there didn't I. I don't know how much impact he'll have at his advanced age, and he may be a bit overrated as Greb said earlier. He's a veteran and he's been to a Super Bowl, so he's a nice edition but nothing that's going to shake up the league or anything.

Plummer is a Bronco now, and I believe he will do very well in their system. With receivers like Rod Smith and Ed McCaffrey to chuck the ball to and a running game with Portis, I predict Denver to be back in the playoffs this coming year.

As for the AFC East you all are forgetting about the Bills. They have had one of the busiest off season and signing free agents like Takeo Spikes, Sam Gash, and Sam Adams.

i live in the san diego area, and i used to go to a lot of charger ganesm but for the past couple years, the only reason to go was for seau. now that he's gone, i don't think i'll go to a game in a long time. damn the charger organization for letting him go!

Hey El Bracamonti don't be so hasty there...theres no reason not to go to a Chargers game. You've got a hell of a running back and a pretty good young QB. Defense is still solid even without Seau. It could be worse...imagine having Ryan Leaf at quarterback!

Anyways..being a huge Dolphins fan all I can say is this deal is good. Not a blockbuster, but still a good trade. Seau is better than any of the other options we had (Derrick Rodgers, Morlon Greenwood) so already its an upgrade. Plus he brings leadership which will help the team in December

I agree that we need another receiver. Didn't the Bears cut Marcus Robinson? If he's healthy he could help. But what the team needs is offensive line help. Lets see what happens in the draft. Here's a cool "what-if". What if Marino circa 1984, had the defense we have now. Ahhh the possibilities.

Ok, since Plummer is a Bronco, what is Brian Griese doing? I know you Bronco fans hate him now, but I wouldn't mind giving him a chance in Miami...I mean he has shown signs of brilliance when healthy.

Marcus Robinson would be nice, but I am still hoping Gadsden is re-signed. If we got both, fan-fucking-tastic. Otherwise, Miami is the perfect team...with a QB and a couple WR's they would be unbeatable...except of course in December and January for some fucking reason/

Griese's out back washing my car.

He has talent, but folds under pressure. Oakland figured out early on that if you punch him in the mouth he'll fold up.

Gadsden is a hugely underrated WR. You guys'll be lucky if you can keep him.

I did some reading on the Dolphins team page and it appears as though they plan on signing Brian Griese as Jay Fiedler's back-up...interesting...maybe this could turn out for the better. Gadsden is asking for too much money but New England may sign him. Minnesota turned him down already. Hopefully no one shells out the big money he deserves and he lowers his price tag for Miami later on.

Please, Moviefan, don't bring up such horrible memories... worst day of my life that was, well, almost...

Anyway, living in South Florida, and seeing how every other team we have is pretty average, ya gotta root for the Dolphins! They're our only hope! I like the addition of Seau, he's a future Hall of Famer and could provide some spirit, but jesus.... get rid of Fielder. The guy isnt going to take you anywhere, really, he isn't.... and yesh, we need an establioshed reciever to play alongside Chambers, who needs the ball much more this year...
