-----NBA PLAYOFFS DOMAIN-----

There isn't much NBA talk on this forum yet, but seeing as this is one of the 4 major sports, it definitely deserves a place on the top of the board for the post-season.

So, if you got favorite teams, first round predictions and playoff rants this is the place to vent!

These are the first round match-ups...

Orlando Magic @ Detroit Pistons

Milwaukee Bucks @ New Jersey Nets

Boston Celtics @ Indiana Pacers

New Orleans Hornets @ Philadelphia 76'ers

Phoenix Suns @ San Antonio Spurs

Utah Jazz @ Sacramento Kings

Portland Trailblazers @ Dallas Mavericks

Los Angeles Lakers @ Minnesota Timberwolves

I'm not sure of my picks quite yet but needless to say I hate the Lakers and I'm rooting for one team to take it all...

Let the SHAQ bashing commence...

Well since my Rockets JUST missed the playoffs, I am going to support my home state, so go Pistons! I also would love to see the Suns do something, but they will of course get knocked out in the first round.

I am starting to get pretty excited about the playoffs. Its pretty wide open as far as I can tell.

I could see any of the top four East teams making the finals.

My guess is that the Spurs will win it all.
The Kings and Mavericks are too weak-minded, they will wilt in the clutch. Lakers have a chance, but I dont think they could get past San Antonio.

Anybody can come out of the East. The 8 seed is just as likely as the 1 seed to advance and eventually lose to a West team in the finals.

Don't write the Suns off so quickly. They give the Spurs fits, and won the season series 3-1.

Lakers in 5 against Minnesota, then in 6 against San Antonio.

I fancy us to beat the Pistons...just.

Mind I thought we'd win last year against The Hornets...how wrong was I?

I also think that San Antonio will triumph over the Celtics in the final...just a feeling I have.

L.A doesn't have it easy in the playoffs this year, although they are one of the top runners for the NBA championship, it will be tough for them to get there because they lost the homecourt advantage. As far as this year's line-up of teams go, I'm rooting for the Mavericks.

Well, I'm going for Lakers all the way. They're not gonna have it easy, but I hope they do their best. In the East, I'm going for the 76ers.

The games I'm looking forward to the most, is Lakers vs. Timberwolves, Nets vs. Bucks, and Trailblazers vs. Mavericks.

In the end, my final prediction is.....

Hell, I don't know, this is the NBA playoffs, anything can happen....

I rooting for the Timberwolves of course. Although by a Blazers loss to the Clippers just sealed their fate. I predict they might win 2 games agaisnt LA in the first round. They matchup poor with both Shaq (Nesterovic, Jackson, Joe Smith) and Bryant (if Wally plays him else maybe Peeler. The only way will be to out score them and make it an up and down game and if a third scorer gets hot - maybe Hudson. Man seven straight first round exits. Hopefully Garnett can get the MVP.

If the lakers have to play the Mavs at some point, I like our chances. We just match up very well against Dallas. I think it's been 13 years since Dallas won a game in LA, and we can win in Dallas no problem. Home court shouldn't mean much in that series.

Darn, I'm a rockets fan too, and bummed that they're out of it.

Being from Dallas though, I must root for the Mavericks, them and the Kings are the most exciting teams in the NBA. Also would like to see Stockton and Malone win one.
Well really, as long as the Lakers get knocked out I'm happy.

And man its such a shame how lop-sided the conferences are, the West is just superior.

I always thought the first series in NBA was a 5 gamer...oh well I haven't followed their set-up for a while. I however am rooting for a team that I have predicted to lose in this first round...

Damn, I was wondering that as well. As I recall last year was 5 in the first round and the few years before that as well.

This is definitely a new format for Round 1.

Why?

Maybe the NBA wanted the playoffs to be more challenging, so they made the first round 7-gamers. Who knows why they did it, but I think it's cool. Now, the first round should be more, well, challenging....

I'm "with" the Kings myself, and the first round should be the more fun because they're playing against Utah, who I hate. That'll be a blast.

The East looks really boring this year...Go Bucks...???

I think another reason why the made the first round 7 games, was because it would make every round a best of 7, meaning it would follow the 7 game pattern as the semifinals, conference finals, and NBA finals did.

Yes, an NBA thread! Thanks Indiana Sex (Whoops, I mean Sev). I hope that the Lakers win this one again for the first time, I gotta support my home team (I could support the Clippers I suppose... *huge laughter from audience*). And I know my favorite underdog on the Lakers, Derek Fisher, is gonna ball!

While watching the Suns/Spurs game, four words came to mind....

Fuck you Frank Johnson!

When your team is shutting down the number one team in the league, you don't take out 3 of the players on the floor and replace them with guys who have no chance of holding on to the lead...if the Suns lose, it's because of him.

SUNS BEAT SPURS ON 3-POINT BUZZER BEATER! WHAT A GAME!!!

Although I'm not a big fan of either team, I want the Spurs to win because they have the best chance of getting out the Lakers, plus I like Tim Duncan, and want Robinson to win another one before he retires.

Suns over Spurs is a big surprise but I imagine San Antonio will step it up in game 2 in a big way.

Otherwise the the games were fairly predictable:

Milwaukee - 96
New Jersey - 109

Boston - 103
Indiana - 100

Portland - 86
Dallas - 96

Phoenix - 96
San Antonio - 95

And early on, Utah is defeating Sacramento...let's hope they can hold that lead!

My thoughts.....

New Jersey Nets vs. Milwaukee Bucks - Game 1:

Gary Payton and the Bucks couldn't really get anything going today, but they'll be back... I think.

Boston Celtics vs. Indiana Pacers - Game 1:

Awesome game, but I never thought the Celtics would defeat the Pacers today, especially not in their own court. It was definitely a surprise.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Portland Trailblazers - Game 1:

Dirk Nowitski kicked the Blazers' asses today, and if the Blazers don't find a way to shut Nowitski down.... they're going to lose this series.

Sacramento Kings vs. Utah Jazz - Game 1:

I wasn't surprised that the Kings won, but I think they better watch their backs. The Jazz ain't gonna back down, they're still very determined, and I think they're gonna step up their game.

Phoniex Suns vs. San Antonio Spurs - Game 2:

What a shock! I never thought the Suns would win even one game in this series, and I truly believed the Spurs would shut them out. It's not gonna happen now, though. I really underestimated the Suns.

Well, these first two games were a little on the boring side. Tracy McGrady kicked some major ass today, and the Pistons couldn't really keep him down.

And the Lakers, damn, the Lakers beat the hell outta of the Timberwolves. Kevin Garnett did all the work by himself, and it wasn't anything spectacular. In order for the Wolves to give the Lakers a run for their money, there really needs to be a team effort.

Alright, Sunday's playoff games are almost over, we just have one more game left.... Philedelphia 76ers vs. New Orleans Hornets. This one should be good, I have a strong feeling this series will go down to the wire....

Who saw Allen Iverson today? Damn, he tore the court up today!!! Iverson just wouldn't stop!!! I'm happy the 76ers won game one, however, the Hornets had a chance to steal the victory.... unfortunately for them, they lost focuse, and stumbled hard.

Still, I think this is going to be a close series, the Hornets will come back with a vengeance, I'm sure of it....
