That wasn't the twist... it was kinda obvious that it was going to happen.
Anyways I thought Identity was great the first time 9/10 and then on a second viewing it gets kinda boring 7.5/10 |

I really wanted to like this movie but I didn't. I really didn't like the twist at all, and who said this movie was really gory, all the kills where off screen and pretty shitty. The only part I liked was probably the last minute.

I really liked this movie! Great cast, great setting, great cinetography, tight direction, and a really cool music score by Alan Silverstri.
I already knew the twist when I saw it (I`m a spoiler junkie), but I still liked it. However, when thinking about the "twist", the shrink (Alfred Molina)`s "plan" was full of holes. |

I just saw this and I was surprised by the 'twist' because I was expecting more of straightforward 'Ten Little Indians'-type affair, but once it became clear what was happening I was equally disappointed and intrigued!
![]() The actual 'twist' (and I'll say nothing further regarding this to prevent any Schmoes guessing it before they see it) is one I haven't personally seen used before, and for that alone it gets my seal of approval. However, once the 'twist' was revealed, the movie seemed to lose a little of it's steam (although it remained a satisfying experience overall). The only thing that I really didn't think worked that well was the last couple of minutes, but I'm pretty sure I'll catch this again on DVD and maybe my opinion may change. Overall, I'd recommend it - 7/10. |

Identity 7/10 Smart Mystery Thriller, With An Unsatisfactory Ending
I couldn't help but let the ending of this potentially great movie hinder my overall thoughts on it. Identity takes us through the happenings at a motel, where after a series of events, ten strangers are stranded due to flooding and massive rain. There, they start dying one by one and uncover several things about the happenings. I don't want to add any spoilers, so I'll stop there with the plot. But what occurs about fifteen minutes before the end really dampened the movie for me. Then a second thing also deflated me a bit. But as the story goes, it was well written and finished well. It does keep you guessing and does not bore you(a couple of parts not withstanding). You do get involved with the characters as they are all rich and played perfectly by the stars. John Cusack is perfect as the level headed Ed, the limo driver with a past. Amanda Peet plays the grave digging whore,Paris, very well and matches the rest of the top tier talent. Ray Liotta as Rhodes does what he does and does it well. Rebecca De Mornay plays the washed up actress(hah!) Caroline Suzanne to a tee, but it is underwritten. John C McGinley plays the nebbish stepfather George York for a change and you do feel for him. John Hawkes may have been my favorite character as the owner of the motel, Larry. He provides a well rounded performance and is the semi comic relief. Leila Kenzle and Bret Loehr as Alice and Timothy York are just sort of there. The only characters that didn't do it for me at all were Clea Duvall and Jake Busey. The scared, always crying girlfriend just tested my nerves, and Busey as a convict does not fit in and is over acted by him. The story moves along briskly with only a couple noticeable slow spots. But it does try to do too much at the end. It does try something new, and that is greatly appreciated, but it did hinder the movie a bit for me. Overall, a good mystery thriller with something else to offer. |

***SPOILERS AHEAD***
I have to agree with sharkstank. Identity was excellent for the first hour or so, but then it slapped in that moronic twist and soured me on the whole experience. Now, let me get this straight, I have nothing against twists. I think if a movie can effectively and unexpectedly slap in a twist, that's a great thing. But when a movie puts in a twist that is completely nonsensical or infuriatingly stupid, it just pisses me off. The twist in Identity is the latter. I mean, what was the writer thinking! Really! I can just picture him sitting there. "Hmmm, here's a good idea. Establish interesting characters and a creepy setting, and then halfway through, reveal that none of it's real!" I honestly don't understand how we were expected to care after the twist was revealed. Since we know the main characters aren't real, it is impossible to care about them, and since we know nothing about the crazy guy, it's kinda hard to give a damn about what happens to him. Furthermore, Pruitt Taylor Vince was a horrible casting choice for the murderer. He wasn't menacing at all, they should have got someone more creepy looking. Also, Alfred Molina's theory was ridiculous. Finally, I saw the twist at the very end coming from a mile away. All in all, the first hour saves the movie from complete disaster, but the last half-an-hour was extremely disappointing. |

***SPOILERS*** So he concocted a plan to put all the killer`s personalities together at the hotel, hoping that the 'good personalites' would stop the 'bad personality'. But didn`t it ever occur to him that the bad personality would simply kill all the other ones?!? |

yeah, i really enjoyed this movie as well. Every aspect of it appealed to me and I loved the "twists" that they threw at me. The cast was awesome and had an eerie feel to it. I give it a 9/10

I still can't decide if this was a very good film, or a very silly film. I think that the cast really made the film - Cusack and Liotta are always generally worth watching. Were it not for them, and a couple of the others, then I fear I would have dismissed it as poor.

Like The Others, I saw the "twist" of this one coming a mile away, and that ended up really bringing down the whole experience for me. I really wanted to like it, but the ending blew it off badly, even though I thought the performances and direction were really excellent.
