The Paramount Theater in Austin does a classic summer film series each year and I go to a lot of the screenings. This was their lineup this summer and it was the weakest in years (but still pretty great): http://www.austintheatre.org/site/Pa...er_film_series. A double feature of Seven Samurai and Sansho The Bailiff is about as good as things get. The Alamo Drafthouses also show a lot of classics and are doing a great 70mm series leading up to the release of The Master, so I'll get to see Baraka and Playtime how they're meant to be seen again. This is a great town for filmgoing.

Ha, if you have any desire to post your post-viewing thoughts on 70mm Playtime I'd be interested to read them (the only downside is that so much stuff is packed into the frame at any given moment that you still can't capture the damn thing with a single 70mm viewing). It's a shame they didn't stick Playtime/2001 in a double-bill.

Ha, I actually saw 2001 and Playtime as a double bill 2 years ago (one of the best movie going experiences of my life). Last year Playtime was shown separately then I saw 2001 and Baraka as a double feature. This year I'll see them all separately. I agree that Playtime requires multiple viewings to catch everything and I've kind of come to feel that a TV-size screening can't remotely do it justice.
