What does everyone think of Colin "Mr. Darcy" Firth?

I loved him in Pride and Prejudice and, of course, Bridget Jones' Diary. Apart from these standouts, he's had a few other movies to note (The English Patient, Shakespeare in Love, Love Actually etc)...but he seems to be stuck in the "handsome, brooding bachelor" rut.

I'd love to see him branch out into some more challenging roles..maybe a villain or someone a little deeper emotionally. Still, I respect him as an actor and I think the future looks bright for Mr. Firth.

Apart from that....he is drop dead bloody gorgeous!

Jesus H Christ yes! When he emerged soaking wet from that river in "Pride..."... my heart was aflutter. And as for Mark Darcy in "Bridget Jones"... wow. Big YAY!. He also seems very intellectual without looking like a try hard and that is a wonderful point.

Yay from me. He's very talented. Not your average beefcake. He was fun in Bridget Jones.

Not very versatile imo, but is always likeable on screen, and isn't that hard on the eyes either.

Once I saw this thread I had to delurk so I could say how much I admire and adore this actor. To date, I think have about 24 of his films on tape and DVD so I guess I'm borderline obsessive, or perhaps not borderline at all!

I think Colin Firth is an extremely versatile actor who hasn't received as much acclaim in North America as he should.

In one of his earliest films, Apartment Zero, he plays a paranoid young man slipping into lunacy. In Valmont he is a charming cad, who uses sex in the destruction of others and ultimately himself. In a complete departure, he plays a foppishly gay aristocrat in the comedy Relative Values opposite Julie Andrews. And his smouldering Darcy in Pride and Prejudice is a classic.

He seems to have been caught recently in a series of lightweight comedies and family films but I'm glad to see he is finally returning to more dramatic roles.

He's a darn fine actor and absolutely gorgeous to boot!

I of course admired him in Bridget Jone's, but I hadnt actually fallen in love with him until I saw "Girl with a Pearl Earring". Awesome movie and he is sexier than ever before. yay baby!
