The film opens in the Garden of Olives (Gethsemane) where Jesus has gone to pray after the Last Supper. Jesus resists Satan's temptations. Betrayed by Judas Iscariot, Jesus is arrested and taken back to within the city walls of Jerusalem where the leaders of the Pharisees confront him with accusations of blasphemy and his results in a condemnations of death. Jesus is brought before Pilate, the Roman Governor of Palestine, who listens to the accusations leveled at him by the Pharisees. Realizing he is confronting a political conflict, Pilate defers to King Herod in the matter. Herod returns Jesus to Pilate who gives the crowd a choice between Jesus and the criminal Barabbas. The crowd chooses to have Barabbas set free and to condemn Jesus. Jesus is handed over to the Roman soldiers and flagellated. Unrecognizable now, he is brought back before Pilate, who presents him to the crowd as if to say is this not enough? It is not. Pilate washes his hands of the entire dilemma, ordering his men to do as the crowd wishes. Jesus is presented with the cross and is ordered to carry it through the streets of Jerusalem all the way up to Golgotha. On Golgotha, Jesus is nailed to the cross and undergoes his last temptation -- the fear that he has been abandoned by his Father. He overcomes his fear, looks at Mary, his Holy Mother, and makes the pronouncement which only she can fully understand, it is accomplished. He then dies: into Thy hands I commend my Spirit. At the moment of his death, nature itself overturns.

I have to buy this film... It is depressing and sad at the same time but something you can sit with family and watch during easter seasons or something.

this movie is a fucking joke. mel gibson is one smart bastard for capitalising on the christians. the only reason this movie was put out was to make money and thats it. after all if mel gibson is such a converted christian and just wanted to put this movie out to show people a story they have read for the passed thousand years, why would be sue people over it?

http://entertainment.msn.com/movies/...px?news=160650

if he is such a good reborn chirstian, why isnt he donating the profits he made to the church? or charity? or anything else? this movie grossed over 350 million dollars. what does gibson need 300 mill for?

lets just say i will not be giving my money to mel gibson and i wished more people would see thru his lies and see that the real reason he made this movie was to take advantage of people.

If you actually did research or anything, or hell even turned your tv to E, or the news every now and then you would see that he has funded the building of more then a couple dozen churches. In his religion your suppose to give 10% of what you make to the church. By now i'd say he's given 20 - 35%.

Now i thought the movie was so-so, 7/10. So i didn't just reply to that because i loved the movie, just because you are talking out of your ass.

Yeah, everybody knows. The way to make tons of money with a movie is to fund the movie yourself, and make it in Latin and Hebrew with subtitles.

I'll be getting this the day it comes out.

This is an absolute masterpiece, and I can't wait to add it to my DVD collection. Right now it's my favorite movie of the year, and it would take quite a film to knock it down a notch.

It is a good thing that they spend as much space on the film itself and for its proper transfer. Though it is obvious that there are other editions lurking around the corner, it's a good choice to make the quality as top-notch as possible. Though a second disc for the extras would not have hurt.

This movie is going to make Mel another fortune in DVD sales on top of what it's made him in the theatre... I will definately be purchasing this.

You can bet I will be their on Aug 31 to pick up a copy. Like Strider said it is an incredible piece of filmmaking, and if critics were honest, and judged it only on how good it was and not anything else it certainly would not have gotten those preposterous negative reviews. Although even I have a tough time judging it only as a movie because that is my religion. This is without a doubt, the most painful, gut-wrenching 2 hours I have ever spent in a movie theatre.

9/10, and one of the best of the year so far. But I'd never own it. How often could I actually watch this? I'll pass on owning it, but might see it again in a few years.
