กก BEIJING, Sept.13 (Xinhuanet) -- The Oscar winning actress Nicole Kidman has announced she'll work with the renowned Hong Kong director, Wang Kar-Wai, next year.

The Hollywood star revealed that she will spend half the year in New York shooting of the film, which as yet has no name. China Radio International reported Saturday.

Besides this new deal, Wang Kar-Wai's film "Days of Being Wild," starring the late Hong Kong singer and actor Leslie Cheung, will hit the US big screens later this month.

This is exciting, she expressed interest awhile ago that she would like to work with him. Anyone else a Wong fan?

Who wrote that article? It's Wong not Wang!

Anyway, if the story is true, I'm more than a little disappointed. I'm a big fan of Wong Kar-wai and I'm not too keen on him engaging American movie stars to star in his films.

I was hoping he'd keep the actors as low-key as possible.

Damn!

If I remember correctly, Sofia C. namechecked Wong Kar-Wai at the Oscars and that probably brought a little recognition (very deserved recognition) from the Hollywood glitterati. Either way, though I begrudgingly admired Kidman in Dogville, I have more faith in Wong Kar-Wai...so it's good news that they might team up. You never know. If Zhang Yimou can direct chop-socky flicks, anything is possible.

Damn right it is! How dare they spell his name wrong!

If this is true, then I'm more than excited about this project. Wong Kar-Wai is one of China's finest directors right now and Nicole Kidman is one of my favorite actresses, it should be interesting to see how this'll turn out.

While Wong Kar Wai's movies are all fantastic and definitely not seen by mainstream America, he has actually had a strong tradition of getting big-name, celebrity actors to appear in all of his films. Even if they're not too well known over here in the states, his regulars of Tony Leung, Leslie Cheung, and Maggie Cheung are all huge "hollywood"-like stars in China who stepped away from their traditional flashy roles to star in his pictures, which assured audiences would show up.

The cute girl in Chungking Express is actually a HUGE pop singer in mainland China, Faye Wong. While she was awesome, her being in that movie would be for us like Brittney starring in the next Darren Aranofsky flick.

Anyway, the point is his movies have always had big stars, and done fantastic with them.

So, does Kidman want to top Tom Cruise as the person who's made movies with the biggest amount of brilliant directors or something?

Sorry I didn't see this earlier, but sure, I'll back up my claim.

MOULIN ROUGE - She teamed with some rather talented superstars and she was still dismal. MacGregor carried her during the duets.

EYES WIDE SHUT - UGH! Even with Cruise and Stanley Kubrick, this movie was just...bad. And she was flat during the whole performance. The nude scenes weren't sexy. She looked like a wax dummy without enough wax to make her look human.

THE HOURS - Let me get this straight...she won an Oscar for this performance? Tons of make up and a cigarette holder don't instantly qualify the woman for an Oscar. And she was working with MUCH better talent in the film. She never earned that Oscar to me.

DEAD CALM - Half right. Her performance never convinced me. Not once.

DAYS OF THUNDER - No wonder she and Cruise split up. They couldn't ever do a good film together. Again, I never bought it.

Beyond that, I don't like her looks or her ego. There is another thread that covers this called NICOLE KIDMAN NEEDS TO STOP in this very forum. It's just my opinion she's not at all a great actress.
