At least people are still going to theaters to see movies, despite them seeing shitty ones.

on the bright side, this time of year gets dumped the cinema garbage, they'll be some great films coming out sooner or later.

There are two reasons why I am starting to like March this year.

A damn fine movie month starting off with a Bruce Willis action flick called 16 Blocks, and my 19th birthday.

FD3 definitly looks to surpass the opening of FD2, which pulled 16 million against The Recruit, if memory serves, for a second place finish. WTG, i hope to see this sometime in the near future, because i think first two are extremely entertaining.

Ugh, I can't believe The Pink Panther even made that much...I was hoping it would be one of the underperforming movies.

itll prolly end up making around 15 mill this weekend...which, a steve martin remake with beyonce knowles is pretty underproforming. my biggest suprise was curious george's performance. The marketing on this film wasn't present nearly at all, and it definitley shows in the numbres.

I guess Steve Martin + remakes of old films equals solid box office success. First Cheaper by the Dozen, now The Pink Panther.

He's found the best formula for getting paid so he can do arty films on the side.

It appealed to a lot kids, moreso than Curious George, by the looks of it.

On the other hand, Harrison Ford needs to do something different, maybe an independent ensemble piece. Nobody is buying his "geezer fights bad guys" filmography anymore.

Wow all those people should be ashamed for seeing that Pink Panther. I don't understand some people Though I can sort of understand parents that had to sit through that piece of shit.

I can't even begin to imagine why the fuck anyone would even consider going to see Date Movie, let alone make it the #1 movie in America. Fuck humanity.

There's still hope. Eight Below seems like the kind of family movie that will have a nice Saturday bump, while Date Movie seems like something people rush out to opening day. Plus, I think a lot of schools are off on Monday, so that should also help Eight Below. I wouldn't be surprised to see it in the number one spot by Monday.

Not good for Freedomland.

Date Movie is number one for yesterday, but it doesn't have that great of a lead over Eight Below, which, as Madsen said, will get a nice bump based on its family status. A lot of parents and kids were at yesterday's showing.

I'm actually surprised Date Movie didn't pull in a bigger audience. the PG-13 Scary Movie pulled in something like 50 million its first weekend, given that was in october and the scary movie films are part of an established franchise, i still thought Date Movie was a surefire number one.

Freedomland did as much as it was ever going to. When I saw tv spots for it I just didn't picture anything solid of a numbers game for it.

Nightwatch did awesome by the way.

Why do people go see any shitty movies? I do not understand all the hatred directed towards Madea. It looks like crap to most of us, but we aren't the target audience. Different strokes for different folks.

i saw tyler perry on jay leno last night, and he seems like a real good guy who really wanted to get his work done and basically gave everything at one point in time to the point where he had to live in his car just to get his playwright on stage....now hes making millions

good for him, as for the movies, i could care less about them but id rather see someone like this makin money at the B.O. than say Big Mommas house 2

Running Scared could have been up at the 5 million mark if it was released in more theatres. It's a shame because it's such a good movie.

Holy Shit, didn't think this weeekend would do this great.

Madea's made 30mil? wtf?
Even Eight Below and Pink Panther held on pretty strong.
It's just amazing how people won't see great movie's like any that are up for Best Picture, yet they'll go see this Madae's movie.

I agree, but it's hardly limited to Madea. There's a laundry list of bad movies that people flock to while ignoring the Best Picture nominees. I can't believe that Munich has only made about $45 million so far. Sad.
