Comus - Drip Drip

A tale of a brutal murder, this song is all acoustic featuring a shifting, swirling mire of guitars, violins, and various percussive instruments. Roger Wootton's frantic, disturbed vocal delivery adds much to the atmosphere of the song, as do his rather graphic lyrics.

And just a bit of trivia, the line of the song As I carry you to your grave, my arms your hearse is where Mikael Åkerfeldt got the title for Opeth's album My Arms, Your Hearse.

Just off the top of my head...

A lot of Mazzy Star songs fall under this rubric (especially Into Dust and Take Everything) and so do a lot of Concrete Blonde songs. There I would single out Tomorrow Wendy but you also need to include their cover of George Harrison's Beware of Darkness and their definitive version of Leonard Cohen's Everybody Knows.

Maybe I'm partial to him because I lived in Iceland for a good period of my life, but the songs sweet either way.

I like how you included so many style ... Anathema and Pat Benatar in the same list , who knew ! Good choices

Personally , Type O Negative - Haunted wins the prize tho

pretty much anything by My Dying Bride would win 2nd prize but if I have to pick one ......... i'd guess Two Winters Only

Actually one Pat Benatar track I forgot about is even more haunting than those others. It's a short song; but listen to how somber it is at the same time reflecting on how the lyrics chillingly pertain to the present economy.

Pat Benatar - Suburban King(Vinyl)

Hammock- Raising your voice trying to stop an echo. I used to rock my baby to sleep in her stroller with this one during her first year and the whole album still resonates but that one track makes time stop
