Books everyone should read.
I need to read more books, and would like to know what everyone thinks are books that everyone should read at least once.

I'm a girly girl who loves the 'classics' but these are my choices.
1. GOne With The Wind 2. Les Miserables (unabridged, please) 3. Catcher in the Rye 4. To Kill a Mockingbird 5. Rebecca (also, the Kristin Lavransdatter trilogy by Sigrid Undset is incomparable but I would buy an old version on ebay or somewhere. Without the old english writing, it loses alot and the new versions are so doctored up to sound modern) ![]() |

Here are my choices:
1. The World According To Garp by John Irving 2. Slapstick by Kurt Vonnegut 3. Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut 4. The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King I like Vonnegut a lot, I think he's one of the best writers I've had the pleasure to read. John Irving is good, but I can't seem to get through A Widow For One Year...just too slow and uninteresting. EDIT: I would also like to say that Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets is the best true crime book I've read. Rum Punch by Elmore Leonard is the book that turned me back into a reader in high school, even though it was only temporary, it planted the seed. Finally, The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield is a phenomenal book that also helped me transition into a more eager reader. Check them out. Last edited by Rated R; 02-04-2006 at 05:47 PM.. |
