Friday the 13th 2 (2010)

Snowbound Friday the 13th Coming?

Quote:
Source:Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor June 15, 2009

Earlier this year, Platinum Dunes' Friday the 13th reboot slashed into theaters in February grossing $40 million during its 3-day debut. Jason Voorhees made a comeback in a big way grossing an estimate $90 million worldwide. Shortly thereafter, producers Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form announced Friday the 13th 2 was going into development with Mark Swift and Damion Shannon returning to write.

While in Chicago on the set of A Nightmare on Elm Street, Fuller updates ShockTillYouDrop.com on the status of Jason Voorhees' latest outing under their supervision. The producer stresses there is no complete script (yet) and the sequel doesn't even have a greenlight yet. However, if all goes well, there's an August 13, 2010 release date they'd like to aim for along with a few surprises.

"If we're going to do another Friday the 13th we want to present something audiences haven't seen before and one of the things they haven't seen before is Jason in the snow. We just want to bring things they haven't seen before," although that does not mean, "the [entire] movie will not be set in the snow."

Wildstorm Comics published a Friday the 13th tale entitled "Bad Land" last year.

There has also been talk of Platinum Dunes venturing into the realm of 3-D, but that's all matter of cost. Should a sequel take off, it will likely have the same budget as the first film; unless Warner Bros. and New Line were willing to pony up more dough, don't expect to see Jason coming at you in 3-D.

When talking to Fuller, it was palpable that he wants to see improvements made the next time out. "If we were vulnerable in Friday the 13th, I think our vulnerability is people think our kills were not clever enough," he said. "So whatever we need to do to make our kills feel clever in our second film is what we're going to do. I think turning [Jason] into a space-going astronaut is the direction we're going to go in. But that's a criticism goes to my heart. I feel I failed the fans in that those kills were not original enough."

If all goes smoothly, a next Friday the 13th could be rolling by the end of this year.
Count me in...if all goes through

I didn't think the kills weren't clever enough. My problem was that the characters were God awful. Everybody pretty much sucked a big chubby. If they want to make this one better, all they need is a better screenwriter.

Jason was fine in the last one. He was the best thing about it. Just give people characters they can actually care about (and not stereotypes for once) and the film will be better. I think the idea of it taking place in the winter is actually a neat concept.

It'll be nice to show teenagers who actually resemble teenagers and not this fantasized MTV version of rich kids. The plot is so easy with this... just make it about them opening a camp across the lake. Hell, maybe have it be about the construction workers as opposed to teens. Here's something, what if they gave Jason a formidable opponent for once? A tracker/hunter who is out there in his neck of the woods.

Jason in the snow sounds like a cool idea. The remake was very disappointing.

Then make Freddy vs. Jason 2. Otherwise stick to what everyone loves. Putting in a "hunter" in the mix can only spell trouble. I think they just need a likable group of kids, something they haven't had in the series for a while.

Sign me up. I had fun watching the remake and would go see a sequel, especially if Derek Mears returns.

I disagree about the characters. I thought they were some of the best/most likable characters of the entire series.

I had no problems with the kills either except I wanted a little more gore and I didn't dig the CGI used in one of them. I look forward to the nastier kills in the sequel though.

The interview was done by IGN.com, located at: http://movies.ign.com/articles/994/994696p1.html

I was a big fan of the remake, shocking considering my hate for the Halloween remake. I went with some friends and enjoyed the hell out of it. It was a simple story that seemed more like a sequel than a remake, and it was fun. I would be down for a sequel if they can make it as strong as the remake.

The thing is they've had two hunter characters in the series before. Rob from The Final Chapter and Creighton Duke from Jason Goes to Hell. And what happened to those two? EASILY killed by Jason.

I say stick to the formula as well. All we need is a likable group of kids, the woods and Jason and his machete.

Just bring back Tommy Jarvis then. Without making him an emo-goth punk please. He was one of the only solid characters.

Oh I don't agree with it either. It's just a complaint I always hear so I knew that'd be brought up. I actually liked all most of the character (Julliana Guill...*drools*)

They made it all the way to Friday the 13th: Part 13, and they're not even going to take advantage of the title.

I think they should bring her back to play the lead role naked the whole time.

Jason in the snow is something everyone has wanted forever.

They are going to do something great with the 13th entry, no doubt about it.

Whoever writes and casts this piece of junk needs to take a look at the casting in Mandy Lane, best teenage cast in a horror film I've ever seen.

Knock off the CGI bullshit, it ruined the last film. Bring back Savini!!

Bring back Sean Cunningham to write and direct!! (Nispel is too worried about over-stressing his style that he doesn't catch the essence) (Side-note, he is a terrible choice to direct Conan what a fuck-up!)

Do not bring back Corey Feldman!!

I thought the remake was better than the original along with all the other films in the entire series. Jason in the snow for part of the film sounds great especially since this Jason is more along the lines of a Rambo hunter so he'd probably hide traps beneath the snow and such. Count me in!

p.s.

Teenagers make Friday the 13th what it is. I don't want the addition of some hunter out there who can put up a fight with Jason than things become corny again and we end up back at things like alien Jason.

Cory Fieldman/Tommy Jarvis can't come back, he's no longer involved in the series now that it got remade. I think he was going to have a role in the remake, but something didn't click with him and pd. (Couldn't imagine why he wouldn't like them. )

Needless to say I'll be avoiding this at ALL costs.

Yeah it's one of top complaints I heard about the film. Oh and the whole Jason taking a hostage thing.

I would love to see a scene in the sequel where Jason stops, tilts his head up and flashbacks to the scene where he watches Juliana Guill getting fucked. Afterwards he lets out a slight sigh and goes back to killing. Random ass flashback? Sure but a sweet one at that

Gingy refuses to watch this because he's afraid PD will take his soul if he does so. Which is silly because I already own it.

Great points! On top of ditching the CGI, I want some kills to remember! The bland kills and quick cuts were two things that made the reboot such a huge letdown.

Nispel's style just didn't work for a Friday flick - ditching him would be a huge step in the right direction.

I desperately want the Killer Cut DVD but right now I'm broke as shit. The remake was fun times and just what a Friday flick should be.

As for Jason in the snow? I've wanted that for years! I even wrote a fan fic (Ya, I write fan fiction, whatcha gonna do?) that took place primarily in the snow. Bring it on!

Ok, the snow setting is a pretty fun thing to think about, but does anyone else think they should call it "Friday the 13th: Part 13" instead of just the "bleh" title Friday the 13th: Part 2.

We already have a Part 2. After thirty years, they'v cashed out the series all the way to it's 13th entry and they should live it up. Imagine the ads: "Coming soon... experience bad Friday... for the 13th time!" and
"Friday the 13th: Part 13: PG-13: In 3-D: So many threes... so many more corpses."

Just joking about the Pg-13 part.

I think they should call it part 13. It would make it that much better.
I honestly look at the remake as a sequel, it did nothing really to re-invent the character. The way I see it the J-Man has just been hanging out up at the lake waiting for blood since the 80's and now he's getting some more. I bet a lot of people would've liked it a lot more if they called it Part 12, instead of the remake.

Some dude who happens across the kids when they're in trouble and provides an interesting match up to Jason. We always see Mr. Hockey Mask dominating, I'd like to see the tables turned on him.

But I hate seeing pretty girls get butchered too.

And Rob went down like such a bitch--at least they rectified that storyline with Clay in the remake. I loved the remake by the way, but I feel like they could have created more of a sense of foreboding with the teens heading off to their doom had they focused more on the main group without the extended prologue (which was sweet).

I agree characters need to be a big factor in this one.

And I think the snow idea is cool, probably it hasn't been done because your hot actresses are all bundled up in heavy coats not showing off their bodies.

I would love to see it being called F13th Part 13 but it's too late. Friday the 13th 2 is just a working title for now. Might change by the time it comes out.

All that matters that we know it's the 13th film and that Jason will be slaying in the snow.

How bout this bad ass mother fucker.

Robert Campbell: I'm going to say a couple of words to you and I want you to say the first thing that comes into your mind.
Creighton Duke: Okay.
Robert Campbell: Jason Voorhees.
Creighton Duke: That makes me think of a little girl in a pink dress sticking a hot dog through a doughnut.

It gets out of hand when you get into the double digits. And yes, there has already been a Part 2 but there's also already been a Friday the 13th. So I'm okay with them using this over again.

Creighton Duke was a cheesy character. It works in the confines of the pure cheese fest that was Jason Goes to Hell, but I think a more serious character would be interesting. A guy who could kill an animal, skin it and eat it for dinner. Creighton was just a guy who talked a big game and was taken out like nothing. I'm talking about a guy who can actually beat Jason's ass longer than a couple of seconds.

Yeah both Rob and Duke were disappointments. They talked a big talk and went out like bitches. I change my mind now. I wouldn't mind seeing someone who could take on Jason and not go out like a bitch.

I'm definitely down. The remake/reboot/whatever you want to call it was the best Jason movie ever made, as far as I'm concerned.

Let the "OMG I hate remakez" haters hate; they're only cheating themselves.

I just got through watching it. I like what they are in doing with all of these remakes in terms of their production values, (no Jason film looked as good as that) but I think also that alot of the success of the early 80s slashers - Freddy, Jason, TCM - were beloved in (a large) part becuase of that 80s "presence", you know.

F13 Remake was definitely the best MADE film, but the script still had the same problems, and the kids were still annoying cliches out of an Abercrombie ad. If they're gonna go back and do this, FIX the fucking flaws, mate.

Out of allllll the slashers my favorites have always been New Nightmare and Jason Goes to Hell. Because those at least attempted to do something slightly original. Jason needs a similar thing to happen. I just dont think there's room for it within the confines of such a rigid formula.

I don't see the film as a remake, Its a reboot, like Batman Begins was. Took a failing franchise and gave it new blood. So I have absolutely nothing againts the story behind the film.

I actually really fucking loved it, Jason was badass and the Characters were likable. The Trent character was a major douche, but his bitch scream was comedy gold. So i'm definitely up for a second one.

While it would be stupid to bring in a hunter or tracker type character, I would like to see a character that can handle himself a little bit, but ultimately loses to Jason. Just remember the guy off 'The Hills Have Eyes' remake was a badass motherfucker, and we all liked him.

Potential Spoilers for the Friday Remake:

Well I'd say they already had that character in the remake with Clay. He held his own when it came down to it in the barn. Most guys got worked over by Jason FAST, but Clay gave some back. It helped that Jared P. is a big guy in real life so he matched up somewhat physically to Jason.

I will say I really liked Clay's character as I feel he was an extension of the wasted Rob character from the Final Chapter, but one thing that really bummed me out is how the writers ignored his character traits for the convenience of the plot.

Clay hunts for his sister, follows this killer through the woods, but oh we need to kill some people so he's going to hide in the house. Or we're going to send him through the door first and let the girl who is about to get stabbed come last. His character just didn't seem like the kind of guy who would crawl through a hole before his sister and the other girl while being chased by Jason.
