FlashForward

A mysterious global event causes most people to simultaneously experience, for two minutes and seventeen seconds, his or her life six months in the future. When it is over, many are dead in accidents involving vehicles, aircraft, and any other device needing human control. Everyone who survived is left wondering if what they saw will actually happen.

A Los Angeles FBI agent named Mark Benford (Joseph Fiennes) tries to figure out what exactly happened and why it happened. Along with his team, he creates a database of people's flash forwards from around the world called the Mosaic Collective (for which a website has been launched).

The cast also includes John Cho, Dominic Monaghan, and Gabrielle Union with re-occuring roles for Seth MacFarlane and Alex Kingston as well.

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_ngEMPRxoI

Interesting concept, doesn't look half bad. ABC clearly isn't hiding the fact that they're trying to capitalize off their success with LOST, but honestly, I can't blame them.

I'll give this a shot...

Awesome! I LOVED the pilot! Definitely the best new show of the season so far! I look forward to seeing the story progress VERY much!

Some very intriguing ideas here. Could be a very solid show. I keep expecting Seth MacFarlane to do something funny.

Quality cast regardless.

Oh, it got me.
The "weeks to come" vignette looks kinda crappy but it's taken out of context. I still dug the first episode and will definitely be watching this.

Anyone have an idea / theories why everyone was bathed in a "blue hue" after they woke up?

Aliens anyone?

Solid pilot, I really enjoyed it.

Did anyone else notice the Oceanic (the airline from Lost) billboard in the background?

I'm not really interested in watching, but I hope it's a hit. It's based on a book by Robert J Sawyer, who wrote my all time favorite book, Far Seer.

I almost turned it off because of Goyer's name attached to it, but it was good, with some lame stuff in it (the kangaroo? some moderate overacting by John Cho, and the bizzare Seth Mcfarlane casting.) but good overall I want to see the next episode.

I meant to look for the "blue hue" when I watched it the second time bit I scan through it again a third to see if that's what it was. I know one of the "clues" on the FBI agent's wall is "Blue Hand".

I guess I need to look for the "Oceanic" billboard as well.

I have to agree with the Seth casting. All that type of casting does (for me at least) is bring the story to a schreeching halt by stating, "here's Seth McFarlane!".

OK, just scanned through it again (forgot to look for the billboard) but there certainly was a blueish tint when they awoke from their black-outs but I'm guessing that was a production ploy to emphasis the experience of suddenly "coming to". I'm totally not buying into my theory because of the mention of "Blue Hand" in/on his notes.

Flash Forward

Predictable
Over-hyped
Uninteresting characters/actors
Too many scenes from the pilot already aired in previews
Choppy direction
Overall a huge disappointment!!!

I think it's IMPOSSIBLE to completely dismiss it after just one epi but I'm not in love with it (yet) either. I'm very intrigued with the direction it is going and I like how (just in the pilot) they made some personal connections with the audience.

I thought it was great (I actually didnt even notice Seth, where was he?)

I just saw now that it is loosely based on a novel, and I gotta say I am interested to pick the book up, it sounds even more mysterious then the show.

Seth is a FBI agent or analyst and has a few lines.

The book (at least from the author's outline) is pretty different. No spoiler but the characters in the book flash forward 20 years instead of 6 months.

So I DVR'd this when it aired, but just now finally got around to watching the pilot...

The Good:
A solid concept with a lot of potential. Another good point is the surprisingly cool supporting cast: Sonya Walger (Penny Whidmore from LOST), Brian F. O'Byrne (Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, Million Dollar Baby), Lee Thompson Young ("The Famous Jett Jackson"), & Barry Shabaka Henley (The Terminal, Collateral). Didn't find MacFarlane's appearance distracting at all. I always felt he had a voice and appearance that would lend itself well to a more dramatic role.

On a side note, the name "D. Gibbons," is more than likely a reference to David Gibbons, the artist of the original Watchmen.

The Bad:
This show takes its inspiration from a lot of different mediums, but LOST is definitely its dominant one. I mean, the pilot even opens exactly the same (Jack.... I mean Mark, awakes after an accident, is dismayed from the chaos around him, but then begins running around helping people. Something blows up. etc) And considering that it appears there'll obviously be searching for a truth behind the event while others will simply attribute the event to "God," there will definitely be Science Vs. Faith thing going on, a key re-occuring element in LOST. Similarly, like LOST's 5th season, the shows will also be touching on the concept of free will vs. fate. Characters knowing the outcomes of the future and determining whether or not they can change it. Yes, this concept has be done before, but the parallels are hard to ignore. Also, the kangaroo = the polar bear.

Like ericdraven, I was also initially a little turned off immediately at seeing that not only was David Goyer's name attached, but he was the co-creator and had directed the pilot. Goyer has good ideas, but he needs a more substantial writer to flesh them out (Ex. Batman Begins with Chris Nolan or Dark City with Alex Proyas), and as a director, he's average at best (see Blade: Trinity). I think this series will thrive better under someone else's helm and hopefully, Goyer will only occasionally return to co-write.

The Ugly:
In order to watch this show, you have ignore the fact that in real life, I'm sure we can all agree that a global blackout would inevitably kill everyone, if not lead to a much more archaic aftermath than they depicted to us as the actual death toll would be so high and so much significant and vital tech destroyed, the resulting riots and uprising would lead to a literal no man's land a la Mad Max. That, and the fact that there aren't 7 billion people on the planet, so it'd be impossible to estimate that many people blacked out in the first place.................but I digress..........

The dialogue is only passable. A few clever moments occasionally, but they're few and far between. There were also some very cheesy/cornball moments here and there as well. I could have also done without that ending vignette as well. I would have preferred just a preview for the next episode as to help conceal the direction of the show and whatever actual curve-balls might be ahead. I also cringed when they decided to name the John Doe "Suspect Zero" [insert vomit-inducing smiley here].

Conclusion:
Overall, I must say that I am intrigued. I also currently lack a Thursday night primetime show, so I'm onboard..........for now.

Finally watched my recorded first episode, and I have to say I am very intrigued. It does kind of suck that they revealed so much at the preview on the end but who knows there is probably a ton more too it than that.

I really liked the cast too. The main guy did an excellent job. John Cho was awesome and even Seth McFarlane (once I got over my Hey It's Seth! surprise) was good.

I just finished the first episode. I'll watch the second tomorrow on Hulu, I guess.

I dug it. I didn't know much except the premise. I didn't know who the cast would be or anything. I was surprised to see Cho. Anyway, I'm interested to see what happens next.

Well, I'll wait to comment on the 2nd epi but I will say it was great. I just hope the series doesn't make missteps like "Lost" did over the years.

Thoroughly enjoy this show... looking forward to where it is heading and all the cool stuff that is going on. Hopefully it leads to something cool.

I read that they already have 4 seasons mapped out, and that by the end of season one we will know why the blackout happened, so i look forward to where the story can go... hopefully its more LOST where the story keeps me intrigued week in and week out, and less Prison Break where as soon as the Break happened, the show pretty much lost its interesting plot!

I'm finally watching the 2nd ep. I guess I'm interested in this show, but not enough to actually watch it when it comes on, which says a lot, I guess...

- The opening was pretty cool with the "Ring Around the Rosies," especially when you consider that the song is apparently about the bubonic plaque.
- Stephanie Weir from MadTV! Awesome!
- The music for this really does suck ass.
- I really hope they reveal "Suspect Zero" before the end of the season, 'cuz I'm gonna get tired of seeing that blurry security footage over and over again.
- I appreciate the "Mulder & Scully" thing going on between Mark and Demetri (Mark being the believer and Demetri being the skeptic). I hope this continues.
- Ok, using the "Ring Around The Rosies" thing again is a little overkill. Good thing the following sequence was pretty cool.
- You're not the only ones investigating the blackout? No fucking shit, Sherlock.
- So you just now thought about checking phone call records during the blackout? REALLY?!
P.S. I'll give you a baby, alright.
- On that note, I'd give Shohreh Aghdashloo (the woman who calls Noh) a baby too.

A solid follow-up, but this show has a lot of picking up to do if they expect my continued viewership.

"White to Play" - 7/10

EDIT: So the actor that plays "The Chess Player" is Michael Massee. Some (like myself) may know him best as "Funboy" from The Crow.

Now I watched the pilot of this show, and afterwards all I could think of was.......why were their future selves unaware this was the moment they had seen 6 months, he's investigating it so they clearly acknowledge it yet everyone else is just doing some daily routine, like having a shit, or a meeting, or waking up/watching tv you know....wouldn't you normally be like "Oh so this is the moment I saw!"

Watched the second ep last night, was distracted throughout the episode. Didn't pay FULL attention to it, but from what I did see it was a good episode. Gonna have to give it a rewatch for definite.

Yes, very true! I just know that if Gabrielle Union was my gf, I'd be constantly reading books about sex, taking every herb known to man, and exercising my ass off to keep a smile and dazed look on her face after our bed marathons.

Janis having seen she'd be 17 weeks pregnant in 6 months will be looking out in a little under 2 months. She looked very happy in 6 months so perhaps she's happy to be carrying Demitri's baby because he's already "gone".

All right.
Damned HD television.
What the hell did the kid see in the clouds at the end of the episode?!
SPoiler it if you want, but I need to know.

The writing is kinda ham handed but I want to know what the hell the mystery is (plus Gabrielle Union = f-ing gorgeous) so I'm hanging in there.

I'm getting bored by the dumb characters and dumber writing and the twist at the end of every episode to reel people in.
