G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

(Split from Current Movie Talk thread because it's out on DVD now -Tweek)

This hands down has my vote for WORST FUCKING FILM OF THE YEAR!!!!! However, Transformer 2 is in pretty close competition as well. Terrible acting, horrendous dialogue, overblown action sequences, the entire film played like a teenage boy fuck fantasy.

I actually thought it was my "guilty pleasure" for the year. Most of the bad dialogue was coming from Channing Tatum, the overblown action sequences is something I expect from something based on a toy line, and about the "teenage boy fuck fantasy", weren't most of the people who played with G.I. Joes teenagers from the 80s?

Finally watched this yesterday and loved it. I've never been a G.I. Joe fan but this was one of the most entertaining movies I've seen this year. Look forward to a sequel.

9/10

I still have all of my old G.I. Joe's somewhere in my parents basement back home, and needless to say this movie didn't exactly make me want to take them out and play with them again. It wasn't a bad movie, in fact it was entertaining at times but it just didn't do much for me. I guess I should have known what I was getting into before I watched it but for some reason had high hopes for this flick. It's an easy watch that doesn't require much attention and has some fun action sequences.

At least Transformers 2 has:

-military support
-better cast
-better stunts
-better action sequences
-better CGI

This is by far one of the worst movies of the year, if not THE worst. It is just so painfully bad. Not even so bad its good. It's just bad. Terrible script, terrible direction, terrible acting, boring action sequences, and some of the worst CGI I have ever seen.

I had fun with it. I'd have enjoyed it alot more if Tatum wasn't in it, but I still enjoyed it.

I enjoyed it. It was bad but at least it was entertaining. So it was pretty much what Transformers wishes it was.

I don't know how anyone can say they loved the cartoon but hated and/or were offended by the movie.

This is pretty much exactly what a live action version of the cartoon would look like. It was silly, but it was a lot of fun.

I could care less if a movie has military support. But IMO, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra had a better cast, better stunts and better action sequences than Transformers 2 by a lot!

As for which had better CGI? I'm not sure on that one. That's the ONE thing I may give Transformers 2 credit for.

I have yet to see this, though people I know have said it was enjoyable.

I also think it was one of those 'guilty pleasure' movies for me. Clearly it wasn't a cinematic masterpiece by any means, but it had me constantly entertained throughout the duration, and some of the action scenes were actually relatiely impressive. Definitely a step up from Transformers 2 in pretty much every way. I'd definitely be up to the idea of a sequel.

Fuck, I enjoyed the hell out if. It goes down smooth and easy. It way more entertaining then Transformers 2, which gets worse and worse the more I think about it.

7.5/10

Stephen Sommers needs more love. He makes the perfect summer action blockbusters imo. G.I. Joe, and the first 2 Mummys are extremely fun.

I have a big, big question!

SPOILERS!!!!

Was there metal in the ice that crashed upon Cobra's facility or.... what? WHAT the HELL caused the ice to sink? Ice tends to float due to its density compared to water so... ?

Well, I was checking my watch several times during this film. And that's something I very rarely do with a movie I actually paid to see.

Yes. It's THAT bad.

Which I really hate to say, as I actually grew up more of a JOE fan than of the Transformers.

*sigh*

The movie was a waste of time IMO. It was boring, the acting was awful from most everyone involved, and nothing in it made sense. I wasn't entertained at all and while it wasn't as annoying as Transformers 2, that's not saying much

They say in the movie "Ice and metal are coming down" and if you watch the ice caps you can see things in the ice as they explode. I just assumed it was part of the self destruct plan to make the ice caps destroy there base they would have weights or something in them. GI Joe is no Oscar winner but enjoyable. And why EVERYONE compares Joe to Transformers is beyond me. But personally I hate both transformers movies. I gave part to a shot but lost me within the first 5 minuets. Something about farting robots that just didn’t work for me.

I hated it as well. Not fun, not clever, terrible FX work and just plain TERRIBLE "humor".

I saw it with four friends and we were drinking and having a good time all night. After the movie, we kind of walked around morosely and decided to call it an early night.

3/10

I haven't seen TF2 yet, but I will soon. I'm thinking GI JOE will be better than that for me.

The more I've seen it the more I realize how bloody awful Channing Tatum is.

While the movie was shit, the audio track on Blu ray is quite brilliant.

I thought this movie was entertaining as hell. Wasn't going in expecting Citizen Kane, just some no popcorn fun. And that is what I got.

Well I was expecting Citizen Kane, which must be why I disliked it so much.

I agree it was bad. Channing Tatum "Duke" acting was horrible. Every single line of his was horrible. However, seinna miller looked good with black hair.

Yep. It's the only reason someone could dislike this movie: They're expecting an Oscar caliber film.

My thoughts exactly.
I mean like seriously, why should anyone go to a "popcorn" movie to "have fun"?

Shit. I see movies only to be educated.

That is most certainly the reason I didn't like GI Joe. I have been enlightened.

This was a good movie. The one thing that really bothered me was some of the effects that looked really cheesy, also Tatum's acting (Why is this guy still getting work?)
