There Will Be Blood

....is a fucking amazing film: we all know that, there's no news there. But upon a recent viewing, I just saw somethin' that I can't believe I didn't notice before: Comedian Paul F. Tompkins is in the beginning! He's the guy begging Daniel to stay after he leaves the first town meeting.

Crazy shit.

It took you long enough!

Yeah, I thought it was funny when I noticed it. I think it was right around the time I was watching Mr. Show again and I noticed him and started laughing and everyone looked at me like they wanted to hit me with a bowling pin.

It really is a shame of me though since Tompkins is one of the very few celebs that I've actually had the pleasure of meeting irl.

lolwhut? This is getting moved to its own thread so you might as well have started a new one. It's not in theaters anymore.

That's funny, I just saw some of his standup on Comedy Central today. I had to turn him off though - not my bag. His acting stints in Mr. Show are great just like everything else in that show though.

Sawy, Tweek, I was hopin' you'd just move the thread over here, but I guess we can make this the official There Will Be Blood appreciation thread.

Word. His Comedy Central special isn't that great, but his original HBO One Man Show "Driven To Drink" is classic. I've been a fan ever since. It was on the day before last and I was reminded of how much I loved it and how much I had actually quoted it through the years...

I just recently went back and watched TWBB for the first time after my initial viewing. It is indeed a very beautiful and mesmerizing film, and Daniel Day Lewis gives an amazing performance (as well as Dano).

But the movie just doesn't jive with me. I appreciate the movie for it's visually beauty, but the story drags in places and the ending doesn't sit well with me.

Even so, a solid 8/10

On a completely unrelated topic, check out this crazy commercial:

Trust me, you'll enjoy it!

Thanks for the tip on not giving up hope on his stand-up Smiert. I was really surprised because Mr. Show always gets really funny people, and he was funny on that show. Even some of their comedians who aren't my style I usually find funny. The truth is it wasn't "not my bag" as much as I was surprised it wasn't funny - but I didn't want to just rip on the guy since I hadn't heard much.

And oh yeah - when I came to the board I was thinking, "wow this guy really wants to reply in threads, then I saw this one... too bad man." I hope his shit gets edited out of the posts as quick as possible - if he'd posted just one thread in filmmaking I would have def. checked it out and I know everyone else would have too. Now I don't give a shit.

It's a great film. It's a chore to watch though. If it had of been cut down a little to avoid some of the scenes that drag on a bit too long, it would have been perfect.

Still bloody great. 9.5/10

What I find amazing is that you thought this complete waste of 2 hrs. of my life that I'll never get back was "amazing". This was one of the biggest wastes of my time in several years.

Terrible movie! Yeck!

There Will Be Blood >>> anything Rob Zombie has ever done.

Haha well, his name is Otis Dirftwood, which was the name of Mosely's character from 1000 Corpses and Devil's Rejects, so...

There Will Be Blood is an amazing movie. I'm not sure if it's my favourite of PT, because I really do love every one of his movies. And I don't like any of them more than the others. I was lucky enough to see this one in the cinemas.

I love There Will Be Blood and it's my favorite Paul T. Anderson feature. It's one of the more original films I can remember seeing within the past decade. Nothing else I've seen is quite like it.

I love that Paul W.S Anderson is around so we get the awesome 3 name director.
Anyway - Paul is just SO good. They say no one should direct a feature film until they're 30 but paul did BN when he was, what, 25?

Judging by the schmoe's avatar, he's probably referring to Groucho Marx's character in A Night at the Opera. He was Otis B. Driftwood before Rob Zombie took it for one of his characters.

As far as There Will Be Blood is concerned . . . great movie. I consider it a modern day Citizen Kane myself.

Touche.
Well if that's the case, I'd still take TWBB over any of the LOTR films too...

Give that Schmoe a cigar (and a possible Kewpie doll). You're correct Big Red.

As for TWBB...great actor, but horrid flick.

I guess we'll just agree to disagree on this one. As for better than LOTR...no comment.
