The Howling Reborn

Wow, this one snuck up on us.

Quote:
Moonstone Entertainment, who is also producing the long delayed From a Buick 8, revealed at the American Film Market that they'll be producing The Howling Reborn, which will be directed by Joe Nimziki from his own screenplay. No other details were revealed. In Joe Dante's '81 film, after a bizarre and near fatal encounter with a serial killer, a newswoman is sent to a rehabilitation center whose inhabitants may not be what they seem.

I'm not even sure if this is a remake or a sequel.

One thing is for certain, they'll never be able to top the genius of Howling: New Moon Rising.

The original Howling was great. It had good F/X and was a fun old scholl horror flick. The Rebirth (part 5?) was good. It was really low budget. The movie was decent though.

All the others are terrible. There really isnt any middle ground. They are jsut all awful movies. They arent even fun.

Part 4 was already a remake of part 1, sort of.

I, being the cheesy nutjob I am,loved the 2nd Howling the most, with Sybil Danning.

If this is anything like the later sequels in the series it shall not be good. Either way,not to interested.

From our very own Arrow in the Head:

Quote:
Last week we were all blind-sided by the news that THE HOWLING is getting rebooted with THE HOWLING REBORN. Precious little was known about the project... until perhaps right now.

According to a source of mine who is close to the project, THE HOWLING REBORN is essentially going to be the TWILIGHT of werewolf movies. Indeed, the grittiness of the original, and the zaniness of the sequels that followed, will be replaced by a 'tween friendly plot about young wolves on the prowl in a big city...

Details are still scarce, but this much was told to me: The REBORN screenplay opens in a similar manner to the 1981 Dante film, with a young reporter - named Karen White - meeting up with a serial killer who is stalking her. In this version, however, there are no cops who burst in on the scene: she's confronted and murdered by the killer, who of course turns out to be a werewolf. Only hook is, she was pregnant, and the baby lives... Cut to years later, and Karen's son - Will - is attending a high-profile prep school, where he's having weird dreams and the like. Naturally, he's got wolfy tendencies, and - shock! - so do his friends. Does Will join the dark side (naturally, his friends turn out to be bad news), or fight against his urges and battle his hairy classmates?

My source essentially pegged it as a TWILIGHT/"Gossip Girl" wannabe, with some LOST BOYS thrown in for good measure. As reported before, Joe Nimziki is writing and directing, although an exact start-date hasn't yet been announced. (Of course, this is all subject to change, as this project is still in the very early stages.)

That's all I can dish on this flick at the moment; what little more I know, I'm sworn to secrecy about. Hopefully I'll be able to divulge more in the future.

Twilight? Gossip Girl? ... What the hell? Did the new minds behind this remake even see the original or did they just watch first scene, turn the movie off, and then just run with their own teeney-bopper fantasies?
