Carrell plays the clumsy one, right? Seems like the gag should be the tie flying up in to HIS face...
Ahhhhh who cares. |

Is it just me or does Steve Carell's head look photoshopped onto his body in the first picture?
And honestly, I don't see the point of these posters. Steve's tie blowing in Anne Hathaway's face? Is that supposed to be funny? |

Yeah, let's cover up Anne Hathaway's face. That's a good idea. |

ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE
This is not a breathtaking poster, but as an idea it works well and is in fact quite funny. I suppose we are just so attuned to being critical about everything that if there is a visually ironic idea embedded in a minimalist design there, we just ignore it as lazy marketing. The thing is, and we should remember this with comedies, that what the marketing department is trying to do is to create visual associations for us to at least subconsciously make certain decision about what kind of a film this is. As for this film, they have obviously gone the route of an imperturbable agent film, e.g. "Mission Impossible".
I am not interested in the film, but the two posters work together well. Why the second one is funny is of course that it reverses the order and does nothing else, but the tie itself is a symbol of a certain type of male power. Not necessarily purely virility but the kind of repressed sexual power that Carrell is known to poke fun at and use at his advantage in his films.
With best regards.

poster is great. movie is gonna suck. Get johnny English. it's just as shit and you won't have to pay 7 dollars to walk out of a theatre half way through.
this gets a green cause the poster avoided being a dumb generic one. well it is pretty generic but plays on it very well. |
