Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star Noomi Rapace wanted for Sherlock 2, MI4 and an Oscar

If you’re not familiar with the name Noomi Rapace yet, you probably will be soon.

The actress is undoubtedly best known for her magnetic portrayal of brooding wild thing Lisbeth Salander in the Swedish film adaptations of Stieg Larsson’s bestselling Millennium Trilogy books (THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, etc.). Rapace owns the role of the rebellious hacker so absolutely, it became practically impossible to recast the part for director David Fincher’s remake (but Rooney Mara is gonna give it a shot).

Now Rapace is making her way to Hollywood, and everyone wants to be in the Noomi biz. Deadline says that not only is she being pushed for a deserved Academy Award for Best Actress (DRAGON TATTOO got a qualifying theatrical run in the US this year), but studios that have met her can’t wait to put her in major films. Rapace’s potential career path is being compared to Oscar-winning import Marion Cotillard (although the Swede’s English is reportedly stronger).

So far, Rapace is supposedly being pursued for high-profile projects SHERLOCK HOLMES 2, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4, the Dracula movie LAST VOYAGE OF THE DEMETER, the action fairy tale HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS, James McTeigue’s THE RAVEN, and McG’s troubled action-romcom THIS MEANS WAR. Let’s hope she picks something good.
