Greengrass quits Bourne?

The excuse of creative differences is being used in the case of Paul Greengrass and his split from BOURNE 4.

The fourth installment is looking a bit shaky especially with this news. So what's going on with Greengrass? Part of the problem might be the issue of the script. Two scripts have been written, which is not always the best news. The first scribe is George Nolfi who was co-writer on ULTIMATUM and is currently working with Matt Damon on THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU.

A few months ago, Universal took it upon themselves to hire another writer, Josh Zetumer to write what they are calling a "parallel" script. Zetumer will be penning the new DUNE as well as THE INFILTRATOR for Leonardo DiCaprio's company, Appian Way. Universal apparently never told Greengrass that they were bringing in another writer.

Another problem might be the issue of Universal's money. GREEN ZONE the next film with the Damon/Greengrass team up was said to cost $100 million to make. However with all the reshoots and time spent in the editing room the cost is closer to $150 million which is pissing off Universal. ZONE was supposed to be something small made in between BOURNE films but ended up being much more than that.

Damon has a loyalty to Greengrass so he may walk himself. It's also been suggested that his walking off the movie may be a complete front, and sources say it's a "total Paul move". So, they may not be filming in 2010 as originally planned if they don't get their shit together.

no 4th
Just let it be, for Christ's sake Universal. No 4th is needed.

Wait.. didn't Greengrass and Damon already make Bourne 4 with Green Zone? It looks like the SAME THING.

If there needs to be a 4th movie (there doesn't) then I'm for bringing back Liman. If Greengrass does bail. I like Paul Grengrass, but the shaky-cam gets a little redundant at times. Also, I'm not the biggest fan of "Bourne Supremacy," but that had more to do with it being basically Part One of "Ultimatum." It did have Brian Cox though, more front and center.

Fuck Liman. Fuck a 4th.
Two things I'm saying and that's that. One, I've never been in favor of a fourth movie. There were three books (granted they don't really follow the books though) and Ultimatum provided a perfect ending to the series. Second, some of you want Doug Liman? You kidding me? Get over the shaky cam; Greengrass does Bourne better. Identity had the best material at its disposal; anyone could have...

I don't HATE Liman, it's just the wrong direction to take.

Robert Ludlum only wrote 3 books. There are actually 7 in total.

Great! Let's bring back Doug Liman and have him shoot some real action. Damn shakycam crap, it's spreading to actual established franchises (Bond, Star Trek, etc), not just Greengrass preferring his rough and ready style.

I'm a bit confused.
Is it just me, or is this article kind of confusing? It starts off basically assuming we already know that he was planning to leave, and then at the end it implies he's expected to actually come back? What? I dunno, I just found it a bit odd.

No assumptions. They brought in a new writer which was reported back in August which was part of my "shaky ground" comment. The original article was saying that it was being rumored that knowing Greengrass, he'd be back in a few months most likely. Then again, that's just an opinion.

I'm still unsure...
about this because I would love to see another one but I absolutely loved the way they ended the third one. This is one of the best trilogies ever in cinema and would hate to see it destroyed by a bad sequel.

this is definitely good news, enough with the never ending sequels and remakes, the Bourne series is fine just the way it is, it's time to let it go
