UPDATE - Warner Bros. confirms the news below this morning (5/24). Not much additional news was added other than it would be filmed using the 300-style heavy greenscreen approach. Interesting...

You kinda had to know with TRANSFORMERS shaping up to be one of the biggest films of the summer, that someone would go back and revisit the idea of a HE-MAN or MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE movie. Sure enough, they have. Ain't It Cool is reporting that Joel Silver will produce a HE-MAN movie for Warner Bros. and that Justin Marks (currently writing SUPERMAX for WB) will write the script. Now I'm quite sure that this version won't have Dolph Lundgren in it but that doesn't mean it's instantly going to be a great film. Making a TRANSFORMERS movie cool should be a snap compared to making a HE-MAN movie cool. I mean it's about a guy who runs around with his shirt off and has a big floppy haircut and rides a green cougar. Not exactly the easiest thing in the world to pull off. But I'm certainly curious to see them try...

Extra Tidbit: John Woo tried and failed to get a He-Man film off the ground.

In order to make a movie like He-Man watchable to a person that actually remembers the cartoon who's probably in their mid to late twenties, you'd have to make loads of changes. As cool as He-Man was when I was 6 years old I'm not excited at all for this movie. Looks like an uphill battle to make this movie cool. Wouldn't it just be easier to have a similair project by a different name, leaving out all the cheesy stuff that defines He-Man. I say to the burn pile with this idea.

I grew up on the cartoon, loved the movie with Dolph when it came out so I am down for another. Then again if it is cast full of these teen beat young actors I wont be watching.

I was a huge He-Man fan when I was a kid. Be that as it may, I don't think it's going to make for a good film. Although, stranger things have happened. Who knows, if they find the right people and the right compromise between the original presentation & making it fit modern sensibilities - Maybe they could get it to work. Still, every instinct of mine tells me that the He-Man series wasn't really meant for a live action translation.

How do you even make this look good on screen without it looking like they are aiming it at the gay community? I never liked the cartoon to begin with. I'll be skipping this.

Just because 1 cartoon turned movie appears to have the ability to work doesn't mean they all do. I can't see how a He-Man movie would really work. Setting it on earth would be a disaster, as the last one was as well. You'd have to CGI over half the characters to make them work anyways... you can't try to paint a tiger green and call him Battle Cat, nor could you slap a prostetic on someone and make them look like MerMan, Trap Jaw, or almost any of the villians. I don't care if Spielberg and Lucas joined forces again to make this flick, I just don't see it being a good idea. The cartoon was campy and never took itself all that serious, and if you do that with a live action flick, it just won't translate well. If you alter the tone of it, it won't hold up for the fan boys.

Transformers has a built in drama element, even though the cartoon never really got serious until the flick, when they killed off 90% of the original Autobots. But, the plot lines left itself for at least a semi-plausible live action flick.

If you make this like the cartoon with a campy bad guy then yes the movie will suck.
Hell look at the transformers the movie could suck but it has a Potential to be great.

It is a bad idea. He-man worked as a cartoon, and I loved it when I was a kid. But come on? A movie? It just doesn't have the right elements to make a good movie unless they change damn near everything about it and make it into a serious, kick ass fantasy film *waits for fanboys to crucify me*

The Film needs a Castle Greyskull and a Red Head Teela and Battlecat.
It Needs Trapjaw Beastman and Triclops.
This movie could be sweet.
