Heath's last days Jul. 7, 2009

It's been over a year since we lost Heath Ledger, and with all the hoopla surrounding Michael Jackson's death, it feels like Heath's passing went almost unnoticed in comparison. But I still remember how sad I was when I found out about Heath--partly because it was so unexpected, and partly because it signalled the loss of an unlimited potential. Jackson had already exhausted his potential, but Heath wasn't even close. Much in the same way that Jackson's death has spawned infinite theories and incessant speculation over his last days, Heath's too, were shrouded in mystery.

The August issue of Vanity Fair features Heath Ledger on the cover, as prolific Hollywood scholar Peter Biskind examines the many factors that may have led to Ledger's demise. According to VF, Biksind's piece "explores Ledger’s final movie role, his uncertainty about Hollywood, his devotion to his young daughter, and what happened in the days and weeks leading up to his death as he battled chronic insomnia, pneumonia, and exhaustion." The issue itself hits newsstands on July 7th but you can check out a preview HERE.

I totally get what he's trying to say, but I think its completly in pure taste to try and down play the mans accomplishments in order to have something to write about Heath Ledger. Bana is expressing pure opinion. There is nothing that shows HL is on an upswing with his career, his movies are totally inconsistant. He stated the HL has unlimited potential and ML has none left, Selling out all your shows in 5mins doesn't sound like exhausted potential to me...Who is to say HL would do any better over the years? He was obviously having some kind of break down, kinda like Lindsey Lohan, and look at her now... Go to myjoblo.com, Heath Ledger is not even voted in the top 20 actors! I just think he is completely over rated and he hasn't done anything that I was impressed with other than TDK. But then again all the Jokers were great. Although Ledger has nothing really heavy under his belt, he will be missed, but then again we still have Paul Walker, and he "has unlimited potiental!"-LOL

His acting work was amazing. his role in "Candy" was beautiful and tragic. He could have gone anywhere. But we'll never know. I look forward to seeing his final performance in Gilliams new film.

Just because the Michael might've looked weird to you, just media portrayed Michael as a weird guy doesn't automatically mean he did what people claim he did. Sometimes you can see a guy on the street who just looks like a freak and you'll judge him. Then maybe later that day he goes to volunteer at a soup kitchen, or puts money in some random guys meter.

You can latch onto the fact he found children to be the embodiment of innocence and he spent efforts to make sure they had the childhood he never did...

Who the fuck claims a pediatrician is all malicious and child molester-ish? No one...

Michael Jackson more than anything...and Eddie Guerrero hit me kinda hard too for the wrestling fans out there.

How dare you say MJ exhausted his potential! The guy invented the MOON WALK for fucks sake. 760 Million albums sold. He 50 years old and sold out his upcoming tour in minutes. Heath Ledger, I mean, the guy did 23 movies, but other than Dark Knight and Broke Back Mountain, there was nothing notable, maybe his role in Monster's Ball or Brothers Grimm, streching it. How many more movies does he have to do to reach his full potential, 100? Knights Tale and The Order was horrible. I think Dark Knight was the only Heath Ledger movie I actually saw in the theater. It amazes me that people are saying how great Heath Ledger was, but only when talking about TDK. Take away that, and what is left? I don't think he had 1.6 million people trying to see him after death.

All that said, I'd have to say George Carlin hit me hard, he was the first comedian for me to really relate to with his comedy because it wasn't just comedy he made you think about alot of the things he said.

Heath's death has been the most rocking death in years because like it is pointed out in this article, Heath would have gone on to carry on making amazing films and I think eventually become known as one of the best actors ever.
Micheal Jackson made amazing music, made being the word, he wasn't making amazing music when he died would never top his work in the 80's. Heath's career was only just beginning and would have flourished into something awe inspriring. But, he didn't get a chance to, truly sad. All the talentless hack actors out there and it had to be the most talented up and coming of them all.

Christopher Reeve. I was too young to remember when he had is accident, but I was always a fan of his Clark Kent/Superman. It was always something special to see him appear breifly on screen, like his guest appearances on Smallville, and I had a great amount of respect for his humanitarian work.

And Heath, because it was so unexpceted and I truely beleived he was going to be one of the cinema greats.

As I watch the parts of the kid toucher's funeral on TV today, the only thing I realize is that I'm sick of hearing his music for the last two weeks straight!

If I could bring back one person... GEORGE CARLIN! Brilliant thinker and a TRUE loss to society. Other than that, I can't think of any celeb that I give two shits about enough to be broken up over. If it was someone I personally knew, I'd be upset. As big of a Springsteen fan as I am, I don't think I'd be watching his funeral with any great sadness either. I know two guys who were really distraught over Jerry Garcia dying and were out of work for over a week! What the fuck? Grow up losers!

1993 and 1994 were a bit of a downer, River Phoenix, Bill Hicks and Kurt Cobain, those were the ones that really felt like a punch in the face. Shortly after Douglas Adams died in 2001 I found an autographed copy of Hitchhiker's guide, went home and cried my eyes out. The biggest one for me personally though, probably won't mean a lot to non UK radio listeners, was John Peel. I can't begin to explain the sheer joy and love of music this guy instilled, it's weird to say you feel a connection to famous people but myself and a lot of fellow listeners felt like we'd lost a friend. Still missed.

I know this sounds like a joke, but Billy Mays. I started watching Pitchmen on Discovery after he died and now I really miss the guy. He was a dedicated family man and really promoted products based on whether or not he thought they were good. He really seemed to care about the inventors that he helped to promote.

Phil Hartman was a big one too. Just the way he went out was shitty.

Also, since I am a huge fan of Cool Hand Luke, Paul Newman was a sad day, but not unexpected.

Plus, I almost forgot, Michael Crichton. Everytime I go to the bookstore for a new novel, I am reminded of the great sci-fi that we'll never have.

Heath's death hit closest to home for me as far as celebrity deaths. I have been a big fan of his for a while and had been following the progression of TDK from the beginning anticipating the great things I knew he would do for the role, when I heard that he died I was actualy very sad. I think it's because I'm somewhat of an actor myself so him being someone that I looked up to or idolized it was tough to grasp. I am very sad that we will not be seing any more from such a talented guy who was only just starting to show his true potential.

I would say Heath I guess just because I have always been a huge Batman fan. I always kept up with TDK news and when they said that Heath's take on the Joker was gonna be outta this world I just couldn't wait... I remember when Ritter died it was upsetting but I didn't really watch his shows or movies, Heath's death hit a little close to home just because I have been readin Batman comics since I was about 12. Bernie Mac was another one that really made me pause. I'm just glad to still have the movies they have been in to remember them. May they RIP.

Putting aside his weird behavior and the rumors that circulated his life, Michael Jackson was FAR FROM 'EXHAUSTED POTENTIAL'. The man was on the verge of a very solid comeback not to mention a pioneer, visionary and lyrical genius. While I agree Heath Ledger will be sorely missed and was gone way too soon, Mr. Barna please don't try to diminish one man's death over another. Pretty much every other actor mentioned barely got even the slightest amount of attention on Joblo compared to Heath Ledger. It's the anticipation of the film that pushed it over the top, not necessarily his career as an actor, and I admit he was good in some movies.

Eddie Guerrero and Dimebag Darrel

May not be movie celebs, but celebs in their own field.

Eddie died of heart failure at 37, in peak physical condition. He was and idol and an icon to me, and to this day I still get choked up watching him work.

Dimebag was brutally murdered on stage performing with Damageplan by a fuckbag who's name should never be spoken.

Both men I greatly looked up to in their respected fields.

As for actors, I'd say Brandon Lee. Floored me out of left field for sure.

I'd say Paul Newman affected me GREATLY.
The first movie I can remember that made me look back through his catalog was "Road to Perdition", probably my all time favorite gangster flick.

Newman was SUCH a great human being all around; nice, smart, kind, HUGE heart and to top it off one of the greatest actors who ever lived.

But Heath affected me just for the simple fact that TDK wasn't out yet. I didn't really think the casting was all that inspired.

Boy was I wrong.

I wasn't old enough (and didn't have the extreme love for movies yet) to remember or care about Farley or Belushi, but if I had been old enough, I think those two would have affected me TONS.

But yeah, Paul Newman first and far most. Then probably Ledger, Bernie Mack, John Ritter, John Belushi and Chris Farley. RIP all of them.
