Well, after riding the Judd Apatow gravy train straight on to the A-list, it looks like Katherine Heigl has jumped straight off of it, since in an act of incredible ungratefulness, she has slammed KNOCKED UP as being "a little sexist. It paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys. It exaggerated the characters, and I had a hard time with it, on some days. I’m playing such a bitch; why is she being such a killjoy? Why is this how you’re portraying women? Ninety-eight percent of the time it was an amazing experience, but it was hard for me to love the movie." Way to say thanks to the guy that made her a f*cking star! Didn't she read the script before she signed on, or did she take the role purely for the money/career furthering and just suck it up? Because I have to assume that when she agreed to starring in the movie, the characters were probably already like that. And was her character really such a bitch? Because I didn't really think so, I just think that Seth Rogen is just a million times more likable than she is. I guess that stands in the way of 'lov(ing) the movie', even when it is the first movie that she has made that hasn't been an enormous turd. I mean, say what you will about BRIDE OF CHUCKY and UNDER SIEGE 2: DARK TERRITORY, at least they didn't exaggerate characters.
Thank god she's taking the $6,000,000 fee she now earns thanks to KNOCKED UP (up from $300,000) to do respectable, pro-female films like 27 DRESSES, where her character has been a bridesmaid 27 times but never a bride, because she's too humorless and uptight to enter a meaningful relationship or confess her love for her boss.
Extra Tidbit:
I would put money on KNOCKED UP being the best film that she ever makes.

don't think the film 100 GIRLS in which she starred, was very feminist either, but I guess that was ok since she wasn't as famous back then |

WHO DOES SHE THINK SHE IS
yea her character wasnt that funny but she really wasnt supposed to be. She was the one in the movie that was supposed to be the emotional center of the movie and the grounded one. I thought she had some funny parts but the rest of the cast was funnier. She cant really say that women are portrayed as uptight and humorless because I thought Jody was hilarious in the movie and Leslie Mann stole some scenes from Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen (not easy to do even if her husbands the director). You also have to look at the fact that she was an outsider, the rest of the cast had worked with Judd Appatow and knew what he liked to see and what he thought was funny so that made improvising easier for them than it was for her. I dont know why all of a sudden shes come out and said this, she looked like she was having fun on the DVD special features. Any ways what did she mean that 98% of the time she had a good time and the other two she didnt? Does it mean that 2% was when she realized she had to do work and be serious so they got a shot done? I love the movie no matter what, her not loving it as well as no effect on my feelings of it. I just think its a little shitty saying this now after the movie was such a hit and it being her biggest success of her career. It will end up being her most successful movie. Unless this is one of those crazy things that Judd Appatow likes to do and this is all a prank and she really didnt mean this, they are just jerking our chains once again. |

SHE SUCKS
There is a reason you never heard of her until Knocked Up, its because she is a bitch, she cant act and even though she is good looking she is forgettably good looking...AKA shes forgettable! |

this article makes it seem like she owes her career to apatow when grey's anatomy is a gigantic success and has been so for a few years. and i dont think her opinions are that unreasonable, complaining about why your character is so bitchy is true. anyway that movie wasnt all that. |

Good point, Heigl, buy maybe you shoulda been more aware of what you were signing up for when it's basically a Judd Apatow flick with the usual crass, sexual humor. Stupid bitch. It's funny when she's talking about how this portrays women as humorless and uptight shrews, when she's perpetuating that stereotype herself. Geez you are one hot momma, but as Ben Stone would best put it, "FUCK YOUR HORMONES!" |

so maybe what she said is somewhat immature and perhaps ungrateful in ways but there are some serious issues underlying those comments. discrimation of any kind is hurtful and its about time something was said and done to try and change these damaging attitudes towards women, other races besides europeans ( by that i mean people of british descent) and other species. we are only starting to learn to change but the problems are still all too common and hinder our progress of being better people. so please don't use words with negative connotation like "animal", "bitch", whore", "hoe", "jew" etc because they just promote these mentalities in society and i believe that if we don't use language to promote them we are taking one more step to making the world a better place to be in. |

Yeah, to some people, the comments below are going overboard. However, I'm jumping ship with the rest of you, if that's the case. Her coming out and saying this is just ignorant, especially when you consider that she's only being courageous and speaking her mind AFTER she's gotten her handout from the movie's grosses. She should stick to being a mediocre character on an overrated TV show, and let quality actresses, who want to be in Apatow films and will appreciate it, have the floor. |
