BRECHTSKY, NICE SPELLING
And I've seen everything that you're talking about and I wasn't talking about a philosophical "Do I exist, let's ponder that for hours" mind-fuck but a visual non-stop "What the fuck am I watching, why did they do that?" kinda mind fuck. We're not talking Fight Club/Matrix/Vanilla Sky territory. Why would Neveldine/Taylor put philosophy into Crank?
And why would Sam Mendes ever do this movie? |

SCOPE07, though i'm sad at missing the crazy angle these guys could have brought in, i agree that zombies is not what Hex is about. As long as we dont get The Rat directing... |

SCOPE07
I guess my point is that Iron Man, The Dark Knight, or any of the other wonderful recent superhero movies just as easily could've been generic action films as well. If there's one thing I've learned from the Batman franchise it's that the quality of a film depends more on the talent involved then the source material. Sure Hex would make a great action film but there's no reason why it couldn't aspire to be something more.
Also, Neveldine and Taylor were planning on emphasising the ghosts and zombies aspect, which I didn't really like, since that's really only a small part of what Jonah Hex is all about (IMO it'd be like hyping up the Vampire angle in a Spider-Man movie).
Brechtsky, glad to know I'm not alone on this one. |

LUKE, I TOTALLY AGREE
These guys are hacks, crank is a big piece of glossy popcorn, and not even a good-tasting one at that.
This could be done much better, and hopefully they will find a worthy replacement.
But still, I think I'd take sam mendes and his Preacher over this anyday.
edit: vincnet castiglo-- do you even know what the common meaning of mindfuck is? --Because the way you're using it makes no sense, and crank certainly was no mind fuck... see finchers game, fight club, or pretty much any mamet film... now those are mind fucks.

Jonah Hex (A comic I've never read) seems to lend itself to be just an action movie and not much more. I think Mark and Brian would have been great and I agree that the studios would want this movie PG-13, I mean its comic book movie, they always think every comic book movie must be PG-13. Brolin is awesome tho so if they make this movie, I'll probably see it. |

WHY IS THIS THAT BAD OF NEWS?
The article says they're still making the movie. It also says Brolin is still attached, so it seems like this could be a lot worse.
I realize a lot of people liked Crank and they were probably really happy to have the same guys involved on this. Personally though, I thought Crank was an okay action movie but not much more, and that's probably exactly what they would've turned Hex into... a generic action movie. So I'm actually kind of happy to hear they're moving aside for another director.
Ideas for replacements:
1. Nick Cassavettes
2. John Hillcoat
3. David Slade |

These guys seemed great for the flick, and Brolin would have been awesome as Hex |

NOT BIG ENOUGH
I'm a fan of the character and the comic, but you're not going to get a big name to sign on to a project that's so unknown. It could be a star-making performance for a new-comer, but you're not getting Brolin or James to sign on. |

BAD NEWS
i bet those studio wimps are wanting a safe family friendly Hex, like that superlame Punisher film set in sunny Florida and sporting a miscast too young and cute main actor and a ridiculous villain. |
