It's been hot - FINALLY! - in my little coastal California town, after endless weeks of fogged in summer months. Since I was too unmotivated by the lack of daytime sunshine, I went in search of it by cruising through a long weekend of "Veronica Mars" on my Roku. And that's pretty much the simple explanation for this simple match-up this week.
Kristen Bell
I could say that I thought KBell was cute enough when I first started paying attention to her, a time that was long after she'd been on the teenage girl detective show. But since I've always been partial to brunettes, when she matched up against Mila Kunis in FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL, I didn't pay as much attention to her. But after watching her as Veronica, it became very clear very quickly just how easy she made it for anyone to fall in love with her. I'm definitely a believer in the Bell now.
Kristin Kruek
Kristin Kruek might not have all that great of a resume under her belt but damn, what a way to take a throw-away role on a TV show which should have been more easily dismissed than it was (I actually caught "Smallville" for the first season or so and never got the appeal) and turn it into the "who the hell is that gorgeous girl?" set of several seasons. People might still be grasping to remember her name, but Kristin is just so gorgeous that she'll never be forgotten for being that stunning girl from that Superman show.

For those who will give me shit for including KStew in the Kristen battle when I would normally throw in some oddball ringer (perhaps Chenoweth? She's just so damn cute...), I will defend my decision with this: Stewart CAN be beautiful from time to time. On her days off she might not be spectacular, but the girl photographs wonderfully under the right art direction. And while I have found her acting to be stiff and oft times just plain strange (aside from IN THE LAND OF WOMEN, where playing a disaffected daughter in suburbia suited her quite nicely), this column really isn't about the caliber of believability.
