Everyone plays favorites. I know I do. There are those people in this world whom I make extra time for and try my best to go out of my way to find their babes to satisfy their needs. It seems that Stephen Spielberg not only plays favorites when it comes to casting some of the best talent in Hollywood as far as the female roles he maneuvers into his films, he seems to have a soft spot, much like myself, for giving some of the more memorable roles to redheads as well. (Since he already married a brunette and STAYED married to a blonde.) This week, let's examine Stephen's best redheads.

Miranda Richardson

You'll have to forgive me that it's been forever since I watched EMPIRE OF THE SUN, but what a great gem of the 1980's that people overlook. If it helps, there was a young Christian Bale running around in that movie. If it helps more, the now 52-year old Miranda Richardson added spark to the cast. Since then she's gotten into the roles that they reserve for older actresses, but I've always admired how brave Richardson is with her acting, how unafraid she is to get as ugly as she needs to with roles. But when you stop and really look at the cougar, damn... she's held up much nicer than any fine wine, wouldn't you say?

Julianne Moore

When he couldn't get Laura Dern back on the cast for THE LOST WORLD, Spielberg turned to one of the other brave actresses in Hollywood, knowing that Julianne Moore might be a little too pretty to play a scientist, but at the same time, she wasn't going to let the dinosaurs steal all of the audience's attention. Glowing despite being surrounded by Goldblum and Vaughn, Moore took the summer blockbuster role and turned it into something she does on a regular basis. Sure, she does her share of touching, deep and emotional turns in great indie flicks, but she also makes face time with the larger audiences and makes a popcorn flick feel less cheap. By far one of the most memorable Hollywood redheads of all time.

Amy Adams

Add some geeky braces and squint your eyes and pretend that she's a naive teenager and you've got Amy Adams hamming it up in CATCH ME IF YOU CAN, making her harder to forget than the cameo Jennifer Garner props in as an escort. Gloss over Jen and you've got the girl who aids Leo in his doctor antics, doing what she has done best since and will continue to do if I have any sense of what the future holds in store. Adams is a powerhouse when it comes to screen presence, knowing that if she's going to be a petite little thing, she's got to always act bigger than life. And she's about the only babe that I can think of who can not only get away with it, but sell you on it better than a used car salesman pushes a lemon.

Extra Tidbit:	For as much as it might seem like S.O.U.R.pusses took over last week's Battle of the Babes, the reaction was 91% positive (removing duplicate comments and focusing solely on the 41 "votes" or "anti-votes") to the concept that comic book babes can be just as alluring as images as the Photoshopped, propped, posed, touched, made-up and retouched pictures of the living actresses that - much like fictional characters - sadly, we'll never get our hands on. Psylocke won in a squeaker with 19 (46%) of the vote with Emma "Diamond Tits" Frost coming in second with 16 (39%) of the votes. With a write-in of 4 votes, Rogue took in 10% of the tally (I didn't include her because I wanted lesser known characters... kinda like how KICK-ASS was a lesser known comic book series... but I digress) and Madelyn Pryor took only 2 votes (5%). Relax... it's only a simple-minded column meant for titillating fun to help you get through your boring Thursdays!

Have to disagree with the other posters. Though Amy is hot, there has just always been something about Julianne Moore that sizzles me. And I'd probably take Miranda over Amy as well. Never been one of those "go with the crowd" people anyway. Milfs rule!
