I love new and shiny things. It's pretty easy to distract me from the otherwise shitty state of the world if you give me something new to play with. I might get bored with it quickly, but everything is fun when you first get it. Except for the common cold and any other virus that goes through a tender part of the body. Those you should let others experience first and learn from their discomfort. These are some of my favorite new(er) faces to watch in 2011.
The cute little blonde from WINTER'S BONE took a rather dismal movie and turned it into something that everyone was talking about, enough so that it earned her and co-star John Hawkes Oscar nominations. If it weren't for Lawrence's heart wrenching turn as Ree, a girl bent on discovering her parents while looking after her siblings in one of the bleakest environments for young people to gain life experience, I'm not sure that the film would have gotten the attention that it did. With Jen taking on the role of the young Mystique later this year in X-MEN:FIRST CLASS, it's safe to say that her days of being on a Bill Engvall sitcom are far behind her.
Sarah Shahi is relatively new to me, even if she's been kicking around for awhile. Mostly starring in TV shows that I've never watched, I don't know if it's that big smile of hers or the fact that she's married to (and has a kid with) that dude who played the dipshit teen father to Reba's daughter on that other sitcom that I never watched but heard plenty about. Shahi has a new show called "Fairly Legal" on that USA channel which has been spawning other similar style hits. More face (and other skin covered parts) time for Shahi is a plus for all of us.
Because my friends are either super stylin' gays or the challenged hags who love them, I've become a bit of a pop music whore. (F*ck all y'all who hate - just remember who told you that Katy Perry was going to be big before she blew up.) Considering that it's been hard to get away from Christina Perri's catchy Top 40 song, "Jar of Hearts" lately, and seeing as how she's a cute chick with the prerequisite number of illogical tattoos that they mandate for pop singers these days, I'd say that if MTV started playing videos with any regularity again, Perri would be the latest, greatest babe to watch.
