I like an actress with range. I was thinking about this when I watched Amy Adams pull off a variation of the same character she usually plays, this time in SUNSHINE CLEANING. To me, the fact that she can just tweak a little here and there and make a similar character actually very different when you're paying attention is a great asset. The actresses from this week's Battle are ones who used to be silly or more comedic and now concentrate mainly on being super serious. It's range of a drastic measure.
Anyone else here besides me love the fact that Swank was in the BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER movie and that it was absolutely hysterical to watch her scream and get offed? Or anyone else who laughed at the idea of her playing the girl in a KARATE KID movie? Well, now she's mainly serious business, having racked up 2 Leading Actress Oscars to prove that she's more than just a great set of nipples. Although for a serious actress, I love that she still goes out in front of the bright red carpet lights knowing that these pictures will end up this way.
I liked her in MEAN GIRLS where she was snide in a way that made you laugh and actually like her character at the end of the movie. I also liked her in THE HOT CHICK when we were supposed to be focusing on Anna Faris. Now McAdams is choosing fewer projects that have more meat to them, from the box office disappointment STATE OF PLAY to the great just recently released on DVD, THE LUCKY ONES. I understand that she's trying her best to get into the pantheon of nominated women and most likely snarling at Anne Hathaway as she waits her turn.
Anyone remember MIGHTY JOE YOUNG? Granted, it's not like Theron went out looking to be cast in silly roles, she just ended up taking ones in movies that turned out to be more stupid than they were intended to. (REINDEER GAMES, anyone?) But she's been nominated multiple times and even has won a gold dude once and for the time being is the go-to girl when it comes to an ass-kicking blonde who doesn't look like she's reading from a teleprompter when in the middle of a monologue. So that's something.
Who's your favorite used to be not so serious hottie?
