Last week was a pretty easy decision - seems that it's hard for anyone to compete against the iconic blonde greatness that is Charlize Theron. That made me start thinking. Now that the end of "How I Met Your Mother" is drawing to a quick (and kinda disappointing) finish, it occurs to me that there were an awful lot of blonde contenders who went through the course of the show before the mother was identified as the decidedly brunette Cristin Milioti. Why not battle the "You Are Not the Mother!" contenders against one another?
My favorite of the not-the-mamas was Zoey, as portrayed by Jennifer Morrison. Zoey first showed up in Season 6 as the enemy of Ted (and we all know how that type of casting ends up getting played out) and the wife of The Captain (gleefully played by Kyle MacLachlan). In a way, I'm cool with the mom not being Zoey, even if she was my top "I Wish" contestant.
Carly Whittaker has been one of the most recent suggested mothers who turned out to not be such, an interesting foil seeing as how the character not only provides for the age-gap jokes with Ted (actor Josh Radnor had explored similar age difference themes in the most excellent flick LIBERAL ARTS) but also the half-sister of Barney laugh fodder. Oh, and it was "Pretty Little Liars" slash SPRING BREAKERS hottie Ashley Benson who stepped so well into that wristcuff sales slot.
After Robin Scherbatsky, who could possibly hold up? In season 3, it was the hot doctor Stella, as played by well known pretend doctor Sarah Chalke, who was first enlisted to get rid of Ted's ill-placed tattoo and then as one of his many maybe mommies. Out of all the women who have been on the show in the Is She?/Isn't She?, it's actually Chalke that I was most happy wasn't. Go figure.
