So what do you guys think of this season of Mad Men? Good? Bad? Meh? I'm enjoying it. I was especially excited about my psychic moment from back in March, when I predicted Roger's experimentation with LSD this season. Couldn't have been more delighted watching that scene play out. Roger's my boy. It is pretty noticable how that huge downtime between season 4 and 5 is affecting how the stories are playing out. A lot of the cast moved on in those months between seasons, getting other parts, becoming more in demand, getting knocked up. The result is some characters who were quite prominent in past seasons are hardly there. Probably the most noticeable example of that is January Jones' character Betty, who was in two episodes in a quite believable fat suit to hide her mommy bump, then disappeared. That's alright, her character is annoying at best.
The more distressing absence around the offices of SCDP this season is Joan, aka Christina Hendricks. She did a few episodes early on, but most of it was her walking around in a housecoat with a kid. That's not gonna cut it. This situation needs to improve, because apart from her semi-nude scenes in Firefly, Christina in those tight 60s clothes bending over file cabinets is just about the best she has ever looked. We need more of that before the season ends.
